  6. Mine's just about a year old. Not broken down yet. Replaced exhaust under warranty at 7,500 service (seized valve, apparently, not that I noticed). After that, the heat guard fell off the upper exhaust somewhere between Tarifa and Fort William, so I've not looked for it.Not replaced under warranty - not totally happy with that, as they must have buggered it up when fixing it on - bits should not fall off. Back brake worked for about a week, fixed again at first service, then took about another week to be absolutely useless again. I don't miss it that much.

Only (minor) niggle is that the front wheel seems to be a bit out of balance. Discs grate a little on pads, only noticeable at walking speed, so I suppose I can live with it, but it is faintly annoying. Asked the garage to look at it during 7.5 and they said there was nothing wrong. Anybody else have this? Any idea what it might be? It didn't do this from new. I don't live in riding distance from a dealer.

Very happy with it, in general. Lots of fun, comfortable and takes luggage.

  8. Re: rear brake - after a test ride of an S1000R, I really miss a proper, effective rear brake!

  9. Arson, have you tried brake cleaner on the bobbins, use a suitable nut n bolt n washers arrangement to rotate them as you clean them, might be crudded up

  10. After 15000 miles and not much in the rear braking department on a 2013 mts, it came as a bit of a shock the 1st time I locked the rear on my s1r. Like, 'fook me', rear brakes! ;)

  11. What's a "bobbin"? I am a complete mechanical incompetent, but I do occasionally clean the bike. I would hope that, had that been the case, the dealer would have let me know at the service, as I asked them to look at it. It doesn't feel like that could be the case as the grind seems to be at the same point in every rotation. Would this be symptomatic? Willing to give brake cleaner a go, if you think it might help. All suggestions gratefully received.

  12. They're the little round jobbies that hold the disk in place on the disk carrier. They should be free to rotate. I use a nut n bolt with washers under each and lightly tighten, spray brake cleaner while rotating with a socket /spanner on the BOLT. give it a try, nothing to loose, it may help, if not the disk may have started to warp.

  13. My 27k, '10 plate has done this from new. Had the discs checked and they are within tolerance. It also gives a little groan, just as you pull up to a stop. Tried changing the pads out but no difference, so assume a disc change will be the only solution, but that won't happen until they are gossamer thin!

  14. You cant blame the delaer for putting a bike together whne after thousands of miles something falls off. Big vibes work bolts loose

  15. nsm - thanks. It seems that it might be a "some of them do that" sort of thing, which is what they said. I just don't know enough to tell if they're making it up. I didn't buy the bike from them. I'm pretty sure they were tested to see if they had warped.

The point about the heat guard is that it fell off immediately after the whole exhaust was replaced and its never done that before. If I have to check the tightness of the fixings, I'm in trouble. There's no way I'm riding a bike that I've taken a spanner to.

  16. Mine had a little groan on the front when wheeling it around, it went away after replacing the wheel bearing. My dealer also told me some of them do that.
