1200 DVT Fit Rad And Oil Cooler Guards

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Vtwin4fun, May 2, 2019.

  1. As the title suggest I'm looking for instructions as to how to fit a set of rad and oil cooler guards on my 2016 1200s just in case they don't come with one.
I've tried getting the side panels off under the seat and they seem to slide back a bit but not enough to remove them but maybe I don't need to remove those to take the front cowl etc off.
Any tips or pics would be great, cheers.

  2. You do need to remove them to take the front cowl off, you have to slide them backwards at the same time lifting the front of them over a locating peg. It's more obvious how they fit once you've removed one :bucktooth:.

  3. Cheers, they've just been delivered (evotech as per the links) great quality but page 2 of the radiator fitment mentions taking 4 bolts out. I've got the top 3 out but the bottom one is mounted on a rubber grommet and just spins....any clues.....it's bound to be something simple mind so I'm prepared for the piss taking....

  4. If I remember correctly I either got a spanner around the rear or a decent set of grips to hold the nut.

I did fit mine myself ok, but it was 18 months ago.

  5. Cheers, yep after a short twist of the Allen bolt I realised it's a very thin nut but larger than the 22mm socket I put on it. I e got bigger ones in my toolkit but I've had to get involved with something else so that will have to wait till tomorrow. I'm guessing it'll be one of those times that you struggle for ages and then have a break and when you go back to it it just comes straight off....at least that's what I'm hoping..

  6. Hi.found the same problem when fitting mine. Got a thin spanner (1mm) laser cut then bent it in the vice.the nut size is 24mm
Once the guard was fitted I replaced the bottom bolt with I zip tie in case I need to remove the panel at any time.

  7. Great cheers. I'll either try a 24mm socket or make one of these from some sheet metal I've got. Also good tip re zip tying it back on.

  8. Zip tie it back on... really? Its a Ducati, you will have an Italian bowing his head in shame

Just grab the large nut with a pair of pliers or adjustable wrench, its not actually that tight

  9. This, an adjustable on the back will soon shift it.

    Mine wasn’t too tight.

  10. All sorted now, cheers. Ended up twisting the cowl round and removing the bracket from the radiator. Oil and raf guards looking good and took the opportunity to polish and grease stuff too so pleased with that.

  11. If anyone else needs some guards I have some sexy ones on my site. Simple to fit and made from 2mm stainless steel.
