959 Fitting 1299 Exhaust To 959 And Retaining Exhaust Valve

  1. Hi,

Has anyone succesfully retrofitted a 1299 exhaust to a 959 and retained a working exhaust valve?

The connector appears different, my assumption that needs to be confirmed is that the motor that actuates the valve requires the same voltage to operate so it should be a case of swapping the terminal.

    Any thoughts?

  2. I have just installed a 1299 exhaust on my 959 and looking at the servos they seem very different - right down to how they mount on the bike.
I must admit I didn’t pay too much attention as I have removed the 959 servo and plan to install a sprint filter and rapidbike to allow the bike to run a little more how the designers intended.

I had a cursory look though just in case the exhaust turns out to be too loud for some of the stricter tracks and I need to get the flapper working. My initial thoughts are that you would be better off retaining the original servo motor and getting a cable of the right length made up to fit the valve. It might be possible to use the 1299 cable but the routing, and length are different to the 959 so going custom might be the only option.
i have both motors and cables so I can take a look tomorrow and post some pictures if that would help?

  3. Thanks Livefast, I have both the 959 and 1299 servo and cable mechanisms to compare, I hadn’t considered reusing the existing servo and connecting the 1299 cabling so that is useful.

I need to pass scrutineering at Oulton, I barely pass with a stock 959 so think it's quite unlikely that I would succeed with an open valved 1299 system.

  4. As standard mine tested at 98db static at Cadwell - I’m expecting around 103db from the 1299 can but need to get it tested properly as the Apps you can get seem pretty useless.
I read that if you fail the static at Oulton as long as you have a stock can they will let you on track as long as you don’t trigger the drive by.
Flatstick did the same conversion and had no trouble at Oulton with the flapper valve removed so you should be ok.
