I will be fitting these at the weekend. Apart from new gaskets and copper nuts, is there anything else I should look out for or that i will require in order to fit them? I have the full dp ecu already thanks to chrisw. And i will be off to CJS as soon as ive paid the pipes off my visa. Any advice greatly welcomed.
I've just had mine fitted, and they had to use spacers on the RH rear set (look like standard washers to me) not very thick. And if you had a "full" hugger that won't fit any more unless you modify it I guess. Is your long pipe from the front cylinder to the rear of the bike flattened on one side to give more space between the fairing and the pipe? I believe the older ones were still completely round so you may need some heat shield for the fairing. Thats about it I think. My plan is CJS as well, as soon as I've paid my card off
I presume its just a normal gasket for an 1198. I dont remember the long pipe being flattened but I have some heat shield and will add it to my fairing/tray. Thanks.
Cant answer that 100% but can't see that it would be anything other than a standard gasket, as you say.
I chanced upon them on eBay as a brand new listing and emailed him straight away about a buy it now price and offered him a good price. He kindly accepted my offer. I, too had been searching for absolutely ages. There are a new set at about 1k on ebay but I got these for 650. They are like drain pipes in comparison. Plus they fit my slash cut style termis. Brill. Thing will sound even better now, specially once i get it to CJS. Just ordered the gaskets and nuts from my favourite dealer in Alton. Snells. Will have them on at the weekend. Keep your eyes peeled and set up an email alert for them. Mine was for 70mm ducati. Good luck. @lewygoosy Kit Collettore d. 70 Compl. di Centralina e Filtro Per Ducati 1098R-1198-1198S | eBay
lewygoosy, If you are interested the set that bootsam has highlighted I would highly recommend him (the seller) and you may like to contact the seller directly for a better rate.........
You'll need a crows foot spanner or something similar to get one of the bolts off the rear header as a normal socket or spanner won't fit.
How much were the copper nuts and gaskets from Ducati? Matt is correct, however if you have a 10mm ring you can grind the one edge down to slip it over the tricky top nut.
@Nelson from Snells = £14.36 inc 24hr shipping gaskets - £4.30 nuts - £1.56 Shipping £8.50 Shipping cost me more but I needed em for weekend. I learnt many years ago never to re-use copper exhaust nuts. Always use new ones. The reason being that its not easy to ride over your exhaust as it falls off. Learnt via Lambrettas.
I think they're for the old style cans, but still. Snap them up someone. Took me yonks to find a set.
Got the bastards on. The copper nuts were not too bad. Didn't need to grind a spanner down as mine has a skinny side wall. Did them mostly with a socket and ratchet, one click at a time. Slow. An articulated adapter piece was useful for the top nut on the front pot. The LHS on the rear was slow with the spanner, but patience and cigarettes saw me through. Doesn't sound appreciatively louder than just the slash cuts on their own, although there is a crispier rasp. Now to wash all the shit and dead flies from a week in the alps. Plus wash my kit as theres even more dead shit on them.
