1200 DVT Fixed - Failing Handsfree Antenna

  1. The Handsfree antenna is failing on my '15 Multi.

    I tried using both key fobs, the batteries are still good on the keyfobs.
    And with both, I got a 'no key present' warning after a few seconds.
    And I always have to place the key against the fairing where the antenna lies, to get it to work.

    So, my antenna is not working properly, no discussion about that.

    The cost of a new antenna is only about 30-35 euro.
    But replacing it wont magically fix the function is it?

    If I am correct, the systems needs to be reprogrammed for the antenna to work with my existing keys?
    Or does one need a new ECU as well?
    I read conflicting things on the subject.

    Bottomline, its not something you can do by your own and you have to go to your Ducati dealer for this I fear? [​IMG]
     
  2. I've had this problem. It's a dealer visit. :(

    The fact that your key fob works with the passive function (holding it next to the antenna position) would indicate that the antenna is working.
    You don't have to have a battery in the key fob for the passive function to work. - Give it a try.
    It could be either the active function of the key (working from a short distance - 1 metre away for example) is at fault or the hands-free switch unit is faulty. In the UK a new active key costs £118 plus small reprogamming charge and the hands free unit costs £393 plus fitting cost and reprogramming.

    I tried a new active key on mine and it didn't work. I'm just riding mine using the passive function and ignoring the dash warning of "no key". Ducati's technical department say it almost certainly requires a new hands free switch unit. (The bit with the steering lock and pin code start button incorporated).

    Note: I have a 2011 bike. It comes with one active key and one red, passive only, non battery master key.

  3. I got it fixed just by replacing the small cell CR2032 3V batteries with new ones.

    They advised me on some facebook groups to change the batteries to new ones, so its a fairly known and easy fix.
    If the bike turns on when you hold the key fob close to the antenna as I did, the antenna is fine.

    The battery voltage should not be bellow 3.2 volts.
    The 2 ones I had that did not work good, had 3.0V and 3.1V.
    The new ones 3.2V so it took 0.1V to work perfectly, lol!

    When the voltage drops bellow 3.0V, like it did on an 3rd battery, wich read 2.9V, the bike will tell it as a yellow warning message on the screen.
    So from 3.0-3.1 you are in some sort of dead spot in wich it will work, but only if you hold the key fob against your antenna, without any message on the dash...

    @Mods: can the title be changed to 'handsfree system problem - fixed!
    Since it had nothing to do with the antenna but with the battery of the keyfob and seems to be a wide known fix when looking at the comments in facebook groups.

  4. wait a minute, whats the so called hands free unit you are talking about in your 2011 Multi that costs £393???? :astonished:

    I that the equivalent of the Antenna coil immobilizer on the DVT models?

    Or is that active unit a third component of that whole handsfree system?

    Do you have a part number of the active unit, I assume its the same on the DVT's but havent found it....
     
  5. Hi Riko.
    The hands free unit is number 30 below (for a 2012 bike). The part number has been superseded at least twice now. You've got one on yours.

    Your antenna is number 11 below. (for a 2012 model) I think It plugs into the hands free unit.

    Sadly, my problem wasn't just the battery. : unamused:
     
  6. No worries. I'm surprised your system starts to fail with just 3.0 volts present. Maybe it's a sign that the HFU is on it's way out? :thinkingface:- or maybe the antenna? :thinkingface:

    In your diagram it shows the part number for Japanese models (which work on a different frequency).

    Yep, passive function works without a battery.

    In UK the HFU cost is £328 + tax at 20% = £393. :sob:

  7. maybe by that time Duc has lanched a Multi V4 we all want, a Street version of the one they just unleashed :joy:

    I'll see how it evolves :blush:
