I just washed my bike, as it's going in for its 24 month service tomorrow so wanted to check it over before the warranty runs out, and I am unhappy to find paint missing off the front cylinder rocker cover. The bike is an 848 streetfighter, dry weather use only, kept clean, covered in acf50 and done 8600 miles. It is exposed obviously, but I would have expected the paint to last longer than this. Anybody had similar issues and managed to get it replaced on warranty??? Or am I expecting too much???
My old '09 Monster 1100S had this too, and it was a common problem then, and had been for years. I suspect it's still a problem now.
I've been fortunate and haven't had this happen to any of my bikes but the first thing that I'd do is have a conversation with your dealer and explain the situation and what action you want them to take.
Cheers both, taking it in for a service later so I'll see what they say. To be fair, the rest of the bike has remained spotless, but I am a bit OCD so this will bug me
I share your OCD affliction - my 1098 SF is spotless and any flaking paint would bother the hell out of me too. Good luck with your dealer.
Could have just been a dodgy cover - hence why I would expect the dealer to rectify. My 2010 1098SF has no signs of any flaking (though only has 4k miles) and nor did my other bikes, including a monster 1100 which was frequently used in the wet.
Dealer didn't appear keen, service guy said in his experience they will say its stone or salt damage as I don't clean it properly. I'm off on hols for a fortnight and have left the bike with then so we will see when I come back. It doesn't get used in the wet never mind salt and is always clean.
