1260 Fork Clamps?

  1. Tried to adjust fork leg heights yesterday, Released 4 pairs of allen bolts on fork clamps but forks didnt want to move. Had the bike on centre with support jack beneath engine to prevent sudden fall. but no-joy. Am I missing something? I assumed they would move fairly easily when the clamps were released.

  2. It is more than likely you will need to fabricate a small wedge out of hard wood to tap into the slot to open up the clamp and release to fork leg. Doesn’t need much and I would advise against using a screwdriver blade, one slip and your forks are scratched to buggery. Andy

  3. Might also move with a little firm twisting of the leg. You've probably tried that.

  4. I only move/undo one leg at a time.
If you’re lifting the leg (effectively lowering the yoke) loosen all but one of the bolts then gradually loosen the last whilst holding the leg. Tap it with a rubber mallet and it should gradually move. Leaving the wheel on the ground will assist, due to the weight compressing the spring. If it goes too far get a small length of wood and tap the fork leg top back down. You can lightly tighten one bolt to stop it sliding back.
