Fork Rattle

  1. A while back I can remember reading about fitting shims to the Ohlins on 1200 Multistrada's. I have a rattle on on very rough road surfaces, not on braking. Is the fitting of shims by the dealer a 100% fix. I do not want the bike messed about if there is only a 50/50 chance of it being an improvement. :upyeah:

  2. Hi pal. I had the rattle from new on mine, took it back and the shims were done , which in turn made them click at the bottom of the forks. I took it back and had brand new forks fitted ( at 900 miles). The rattle then started on the new forks 2 weeks later !!
ive been back again and had it shimmed again which seems to have cured them now !!
it doesn't seem to affect the handling but it's bloody annoying to listen to and the vibration through to the handlebars is a right pain in the arse !!
if its still under warranty I would get them done. It's about a 2 hr job I think.
good luc, seems to be a common fault.

  3. I had shims at about 1,000 miles. Totally cured the problem - 8,000 now and no rattle...

  4. Sick of having mine done. I've a 2012 Muttley touring and the bloody things rattled from about 600 miles onwards. 4 re-shims (latest a week ago at it's 12 mont service) and a replacement fork leg has still not totally cured the problem. More an annoyance than a fault that causes any real problems. Bought some custom earplugs which do a better job of reducing the rattle than re-shimming!

  5. I have always assumed it was my shonky fitting CF front mudguard rattling?

I assume there is no safety issue associated with the rattling?
