1200 Fork Seals

  1. Under 5K miles and my near side front fork seal is leaking it's oil! Seals being replaced under warrantee together with fuel sender unit, oh and cables rubbing fork leg, oh and rear caliper seized....still think my GT multi is great though!

  2. My near side Ohlins seal has decided to give up over the winter. Going to try cleaning it first. Anyone know where I can get a replacement seal aside from Ducati?

  3. I also once got a weepy nearside fork seal after a winter lay up

I just cleaned the fork leg and pumped it a few times and it cured the leak, done 5000 miles since then with no further problems

  4. There is a motoX, thin plastic card thingy out there, somewhere, which can be used to clean round (and sometimes fixes) leaking fork seals. Can't think what it is called though?

  5. Is it this one?

Link is here if anyone's interested in checking it out: Seal Mate

  6. That's the fella - nice one :)

  7. Got one to do my RSVR Factory as it was leaking but before I tried it the seal gave way big time and unloaded all the oil overnight :(
Anyone tried Suzuki K5/6 seals. Are there 2 wiper ring Ohlins seals available? Last question - are the Aprilia Ohlins the same seals as Ducati R&T Ohlins :)

  8. I used the seal mate yesterday and will see how things progress. On first sight it seems to have worked but I'll wait and see.
Would still like to know where to buy the seal though if anyone has bought one before.

  9. Annoyingly the dealer had just replaced one of mine before I read this thread...

  10. Got mine from ebay....you need a moto crossers shop...they all use them...very common problem with MUD :p

  11. I have used a cut open plastic milk container for the same effect.

  12. Does this really work? If so, how...... If the seal has failed, surely it's failed and that's that...

  13. Nope :)

  14. Yes it does work, I use a feeler gauge, slide up the fork leg tilt it slightly and work your way around the fork leg pulling the gauge downwards. Done this a few times on my off roader.

  15. Often a piece of grit causes the leak, rather than a complete failure of the seal. This card can remove the grit.

  16. Update on this, it worked. I no longer need to buy a seal.

  17. I used gixxer 1000 K4 seals in mine and my mates RSVR's. OD and ID is the same but they are a couple of mm narrower, didn't cause any problems. And they are about 1/2 the cost of the Ohlins seals!
I've got a peg spanner for the caps you can borrow if you are anywhere near Canterbury.
