Dear all, Over the years I've been developing my 1098S as I do with all my bikes. With every passing year it's getting better and better in every area, but one of the bug bears I've had with the bike and every 1098/1198 I've ridden is the rear suspension. I just get fed up with the kick up the backside you get over bumps. Doesn't matter if it's the OEM Ohlins or TTX. TTX being worse as it's high speed compression being set higher than the OEM Ohlins in comparison to the loow speed compression. I've always suspected it's the rear linkage that's the problem as from my understanding it's a 4:1 Rising Rate linkage and it feels like the rate goes up 'exponentially' once past half travel on the rear suspension. I call it the 'Rising Rate Wall Of Death'! The cheapest work around to get plusher suspension over our bumper British roads is to run a heavier spring than one with the correct sag figures, so as to keep you out of the bottom half of the travel but this has it's +'s and -'s and is just a bit of a workaround nay 'bodge'. But it's a cheap solution. As the rear linkage was the last problem to solve on the bike, I did some research for a linkage that wasn't a pure top level racing linear linkage but one aimed at a more 'road/trackday'. I went for the Forsaken Motorsports Linkage and I have to say it's bloody fantastic! It just feels like a different bike. I've tried every possible combination of geometry, springs, damping etc over the years, but this linkage just allows you to dial it in within a few short rides. I agree with them that you need to go up on spring rates if doing trackdays but if you're just riding our bumpy roads, I found that a spring that puts you bang in the middle of Ohlins recommended sag settings, in my case a 10.0Nmm (16st 8lbs in full leathers, lid etc) just gives the perfect balance between supple all day comfort, no kicking and still controlled. Even better than the modern BMW's etc I've ridden. Just beautiful! Etienne (Owner) was very helpful and it's beautifully made. Good value with the Canadian Dollar Highly recommended.
