A Sacriligious statement probably but most modern ducati trellis frames look the same. So does anyone know if a 999r frame is the same configuration and size say as a Monster S4R or an ST2/ST4? I'm looking at swingarm options and possibility to mix and match, the start point is a 999r frame....so does anyone know whether it matches any other models? Ta
Depends on what motor you use as the arm is hinged off that. Single sided arms are narrower than twin sided as far as I know. Motor can be machined down though.
That's true - I'm using a 999s motor in 999r frame so I haven't a clue of the 1198 will drop stright in but if it does that's a bonus! Next thing is to find a UK stockist of Paioli suspsension
M'Lud, you wont find one.....Paioli no longer sell to the public, purely for OE these days I'm afraid. Why do you want them anyway. as opposed to other makes?
Bummer! I used to have some massive 52mm USD superbike forks for my Moriwaki VTR and they were amazing - would have like something similar. Just didn't want to go down the ohlins route...
the thing is ducati crankcases for the majority of the range havnt really changed their mountings across the range from 748 to 1198 with the swing arm pivot being in the same place too..........so a 748 ride height measuring tool fit a 1198...........and in fact the chassis numbers of a well set up 1994 916 are just as relevent to a 2012 1198.......so when some ones says the new bike handle better than the old we really know they both can be set up exactly the same.......
Sooo Andy, that means I can use pretty much anything to bolt on the back of my 999s engine? Just choose what i like?
within reason and with the correct fittings yes...........a 1198 swing arm using the 999 mountings..........might get a bit technical when you start to think about shock rocker and tie rod..........
The S4RS swingarm alignment for the shock mounting, seen from the rear of the bike, is different for the 999 frame. I should know! Monster S4/999 - UK Monster Owners Club Forum
