Hi all, Hope everyone is well. I have a quirky and urgent request for help please…and hopefully I can give something in return too! I am looking for a Ducati 999 to record the audio for, for a videogame. I work in games, and recorded a handful of bikes for a Moto GP game a few years back, so have done this sort of thing before. Ideally I need to get the bike to a dynamometer, and record it that way. What we need to record are a few power run type recordings, plus some static RPM recordings and a bit of ‘riding’ as if the bike was on the road. Actual running time on dyno will be maybe 15 minutes. The rest is non dyno like startup, switch off, idle and blips. So you would get a free power run out of it so you could get some technical info on your bike’s performance! We would need the bike for maybe 2-3 hours tops. This includes 30 minutes to set mics up, around an hour to record, bearing in mind that we would probably stop a few times to allow the bike to cool. Then another 30 minutes for us to dismantle the microphones etc. From memory when we did this before, it could be a little under 2 hours, could be a little over. We would pay for the dyno of course, and could give you some dosh for expenses. As well as the power run, we could also give you a professional, crystal clear audio recording of your bike for a ringtone, or just for your interest and pleasure I could also possibly get you a copy of the game (unfortunately I cannot mention what it is for yet, but probably can when we record) As mentioned, we recorded a load of bikes before, and that all went smoothly, and therefore assuming your bike is in good shape, there should be no issues. I am in Bristol, and can find a dyno around here. We recorded a load of bikes in Nottingham before, so I would be happy to go there again if anyone was close to Nottingham. However, if you are somewhere else, and it isn’t an enormous distance away from me, like in Scotland then I would probably be willing to come to you, and would look to book a dyno near you. I am also looking for various other Ducati’s – an 899 Panigale, an 848, a 1098, and a Hypermotard and have posted similar messages in the other forums for those. Of course, if you have friends who have these, or we could group some together, then that would be cool! The noisier sounding the better, but appreciate that time is tight, so not going to be fussy! Anyway, if this sounds like something you are interested in, and could do within the next 2 weeks, then please send me a message! Cheers Tim
There are loads of very noisy 749cc motors that would sound the same If you do this in Bristol use CJS, Duke specialist and will be able to put you in touch with the others you need. I am in Somerset
I am a videogame geek and have a 999 and an 1198 if they are of interest? South Herts/North London. We could play some Mario Kart while you are here if you like?
Hi Tim, What was the previous Moto GP game and how did you manage to get Moto GP bikes to noise test on a dyno? It might be my cynical age but do you have any info about yourself, or the company doing this game? Knowing what people may be getting into (Giving out contact details and type of bike owned) It would be nice to know some background on the person/company. Many are seduced by the carrot of something for free and often divulge more than they normally would. I sure hope it is legit and everyone can get something from the offer.
My first RSV4 was recorded by Tim at JHS racing, as quoted I got a free dyno run out of it, I was rather impressed by tims array of recording equipment.!! I think my bike got used in MotoGP 2011 as the noise for the Suzuki bike , but not 100% sure it was a few ago now. I have told him he can use my 999 if he needs it !
Thanks for that Kingfixer And hey...sure I have nothing to hide My company does the audio for computer games - and we are called The Audio Guys. You can google us and find out what we do. It is basically me and another guy, and we make sounds for games. I cannot say what the title is yet as I am not sure that I am allowed to, and we have to sign NDA's with companies etc. However, I can assure you that it is a genuine title that is coming out soon...hence my urgent request! Fwiw - we worked on MotoGP 10/11 and we were unable to get the real MotoGP bikes onto a dyno on that occasion, hence why we recorded various other nice sounding bikes such as the RSV4 from Kingfixer. Hope that is useful information, and this is certainly a legit request, and I am not here to upset anyone or rip them off, and am trying to be as upfront as possible. Tim.
Unfortunately, although I have no insider info...it is probably unlikely there will be more Driveclub games, due to the studio being closed by Sony It is an interesting industry to be involved with, but it certainly has its fair share of financial pressures...if your latest game isn't a hit, then you are usually in a fair bit of trouble...the studio who made Fable was closed a few weeks before that by Microsoft...
I know, upset about Evolution closing, seems ridiculous at best. Any Driveclubbers on here? It had a bikes add on which is very good; never felt bikes have been faithfully represented in games before that. Has no 1198s though, 'only' a 1098R
Hey all, Many thanks for all the replies. I am now sorted for the 999 thanks - brilliant response - great bunch of people on this forum I am pretty confident I will be back to ask for more soon, but sorted on this one for now thanks! Cheers Tim
