I had some new boots fitted a couple of weeks back on the 1098s, whilst the wheels were off I noticed there wasn't much meat left on the front pads, I thought I'll get and order some replacements but I'm left scratching my head on what to buy. I'm using the bike for reasonably fast road riding, no track work and wondering do I need full sintered pads or not? I always used Goldfren on my previous bikes. Also, the tyre fitter said there is the start of directional play in the floating discs, the discs themselves are in great condition though. I overheard a conversation somewhere that you can have the floating mount bobbings replaced. Does anyone know of a company providing such a service? Any advice, pointers or suggestions greatly appreciated.
Did I post this in the wrong place? Should it have been under the technical section? Finding mixed reviews on what pads to use - Seems most people go for the Brembo pads, cheapest I can find a front set at is £75 inc vat. I'm completely ok with that but don't want to spend for the sake of it if for instance, the SBS, Goldfren are equally as good in the real world for medium-Fast road use. Best pads I ever found were Carbon Lorraine SBK double sintered. People on here tend to sway toward SBS but thats probably due to the fact that they are sold through main dealers. I fitted some to my previous R1 and they would bind to the disk and caused some heavy pitting so Im not going to try them on my Ducati. I run EBC Double sintered and like them with no negatives. Yes I would go for double sintered. I would avoid Goldfren. Ive never used them and im sure they will do the job. I only put the best bits on I can find and brakes are important to me.....
Cheers for your input, the more I search the more it seems people go for Brembo pads - But as I said I don't want to spend for the sake of spending just to have the 'Brembo' brand name unless it's completely justified. When I do an internet search lots of people seem to frown down upon almost everything but the Brembo's. Prior to me buying the bike it had always been serviced at moto rapido, so if in general dealers by default fit SBS, maybe they would be the way forward. The pads currently fitted have done the job well and I like the feel so maybe I need to call Moto Rapido to see what they fitted last time around, unless the bike still has the factory pads from new. I still have a couple of months riding left in them and can't be arsed to take them out to see if there is brand on them for the moment.
As the OEM pads on my 1198 were Brembo and I was impressed with their performance, I opted to remain with them.
I've used and sold Bendix for many years now and have no bad feedback on them at all. They're good value to. On the disc wear, bear in mind the discs are directional and not a conventional "floating" disc. You will pick up a little play when moving them backwards. This is taken up when you apply the brakes again going forwards
Yep. I've got a ducati workshop. The MF compound pads are a good all round sintered pad are about 30 quid a caliper
Thanks for that, I just bought some from these guys, seems I underestimated how much life they had left, just had a pair of tyres fitting again today and the pads still have about 2-3mm of meat left, but I've now ordered the Bendix pads from your link ;-)
