My Multistrada V2S has a spongy front brake on first pull, but it firms up nicely on the second pull. Any ideas? My first thought was air in the system, but wouldn’t this give a spongy brake on every pull? I’ve booked the bike in with Ducati Worcester to check it out, but they can’t look at it until 4th October which was a bit disappointing… Anyway, any thoughts much appreciated.
Symptomatic of air in the system. My first point of call would be to bleed the master cylinder. If you decide to bleed the system, start at the brake caliper furthest away from the m/c. Straight forward, especially if you have another pair of hands. Andy
Agree, most likely air, but if not, maybe look for - Pads knocking back from a slightly warped disc Some cleaning product swelling the fluid or dust seals slightly and pulling back the pistons more than normal
That’s a good guide. I was surprised at the caliper bleeding. I’ve always bled the caliper furthest from the Master cylinder first, which would be the caliper with the single union/ brake hose. Also I note the brake lever pumping without closing the nipple after each stroke. I’m surprised on two counts. Any comments? Where did you find that video and how did you get access to it. Are there any more on different subjects?
