1200 Front Brakes Master Cylinder Failing?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by AndyW, Jul 13, 2014.

  1. Spongy feel to the front brake lever and more lever travel required to brake heavier.........came on in the space of just 3 or 4 hundred miles, I've bled the system at the bleed nipple by the master cylinder and whilst a little are was purged no difference to the feel of the lever :-(

Failing master cylinder?.............can't think that I've read of master cylinder failures?

  2. I would try replacing the fluid before thinking anything worse has happened.

  3. I strapped the lever to the handlebar overnight, re-bled at the master cylinder and got more air out......lever action back to normal :D

Have to see what happens now - no fluid leaks, reservoir level had not dropped and no signs of fluid escaping anywhere........where's the are come from?? :weird:

  4. Had the same shit with mine.

Home bleeding and fresh fluid resulted in a firm lever for a few days, then it reverted to the mushy feel. Lots of air came out.

Took it to the dealer for bleeding which they kindly did for free. They advised bleeding with the span fully out (I have small hands and have the lever set a bit closer to the bar). Again, there is a slight improvement but the lever still feels like crap for a 17K bike running Brembos.
