I have a set of brembo m4 calipers but wanted to know if they are actually better than the standard calipers fitted to the V2 before I fit them?
Most rate them as a bit better than the M4.32 tbh, personally though if you were spending money, a Brembo RCS would be the much better upgrade, and better pads as the stock ones are a little 'soft'. If you have a set anyway then I think you'll notice a bit of improvement, but crucially they also look much better (obv that's the most important thing...)
What generation M4 caliper do you have ? The V2 is fitted with an M4.32, 4 piston caliper so I’m not sure you would be “up grading”. The master cylinder I use with my first generation M4 calipers has an 18mm piston, pretty sure the modern master cylinder uses a 15mm piston. Phil types faster than me and as he suggests, a master cylinder upgrade might be a better way forward. Andy
I personally like the traditional M4 Caliper fitted to the 848Evo/1098/1198 Series bikes as they don't use pins etc and just seem pretty simple in how they retain the pads, plus I believe the pistons are bigger as the pads are also bigger, which is good if you have the correct Master Cylinder, that's the challenge as per Androids post above.
The M4’s are off a 1098s so they should be better? I did try to fit an RCS M/C but it didn’t seem to fit with the switchgear unless I was missing something obvious with the fit? If I went down the route of the m4 do I need the 1098 or similar m/c and likewise if I went for the m50’s? Thanks
I believe you can use m4 calipers with standard master, but yes there are some variations, I believe some RCS are straight (ie the master cylinder sits at 90 degree to the bar) rather than 30-40 degree angled back from that, which means if you use an RCS you have to remove some switch gear, or use a jet prime kit. I hate him, but if you watch jaret campisi videos on the 959/V2 build he changes the master cylinder and you can see the challenge
Thanks for the info. Watched the video and swapping over to the RCS was the pain I experienced when I tried to fit mine. I may just look out for a full 1199/1299 setup, but will try the m4’s from my old 1198 first.
