1200 Front Disc Replacement

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by michel couque, Aug 29, 2020.

  1. Hi all.

Seems the time has To replace the OE discs at nearly 40000 miles. Thickness is fine but a bit of warping, which affects braking on track now, and won’t improve. So I have looked at the 2014 posts here for M4 conversion and hadn’t seen anything more recently. Question is can easily accommodate larger discs, so I was wondering if these alone with the greater outer perimeter would give better braking, without changing any callipers etc etc?

  2. I fitted 330mm discs and M4s to my Twinspark. Can’t see how the 330’s alone wouldn’t be an upgrade, you’d just need 5mm caliper spacers.

  3. Absolutely. You can install larger diameter discs (330mm) and/or thicker ones. I did on the rear one and the difference was huge, planning on doing the same thing on the front but I'm waiting the right moment/wear to do it. I already have the newer calipers (m4-32) and it is really good just with it, can't imagine it could be different with just bigger discs.

May I ask you which 330 discs did you install? The 2015 Brembo serie oro or did you install something different?

  4. Serie oro

  5. Thank you. Were they the “multistrada 2015 S” model?

  6. I just ordered the serie oro for my DVT. They are cheap compared to the T drive and the other high spec track ones. From Carpimoto.

  7. Unfortunately a bit out of my budget.

  8. No , 2010-14

  9. They aren’t a huge amount more than std replacements , from memory at least

  10. Aren't the 2010-14 just 320mm? Did Brembo put a 330mm one for it? I wrote the Brembo code 78B408A4 that is for the 2015 Multistrada model. Is there another one? Thank you for you help.

  11. Interesting, they seem to be identical but they are much cheaper... Can't imagine why, I'll try ask brembo directly, I have one of their employees contact that replies very fast. Thank you again.

  12. Does anyone know if there’s a larger disc upgrade kit for the rear of a 1260S/PP?

  13. So is there a benefit in replacing 320mm with 330mm, or would a better quality 330mm replacement ie Oro disks be a good improvement on OE that is very noticeable?

  14. I’ve got a set of series Oro discs I took off my 1200. I did the Caliper upgrade when I had them which improved the breaking but sold the callipers when I swapped bikes. They might be a bit worn but I can get them out for a look if you might be interested?

  15. That’s very kind but still looking into the different options ie stick with 320mm or is 330mm better. So at this stage I don’t want to annoy anyone.

  16. Doesn't the 1260 already have the 265mm one?

The 330 will need less pression to slow down the wheel, so it will be both an increase in the maximum force of the system, and a improvement in the force requested on the lever. It is a much more direct improvement than a caliper replacement.

  17. @michel couque, I see no-one has mentioned that replacing 320mm discs with 330mm discs will make removing the calipers a challenge. The stock set up is already a pain trying to avoid marking the wheel rim. Brembo do a 6mm thick 320mm race disc which In fitted to my V4. Coupled with some decent sintered pads, the performance is outstanding. Andy
