Hi guys, There are some cracks in the plastic around the fender retaining screws that are irritating me so I want to get them plastic welded. Can you please tell me how to remove the front fender. Looks to me like one has to drop one of the struts. Also, is the axle nut 28mm as I have to buy a socket ?
I would think so, but it looks like the bit behind won't clear either the forks or the brake caliper strut (?) unless it is very flexible.
It's a fiddly job removing the front fender but if you approach calmly you will find that you will eventually be able to wiggle it out. Front socket is 28mm as you say, as there is not much depth to the nut it pays to have the chamfer on the front face of the socket turned off in a lathe to give maximum grip! Don't forget the strangely shaped rubber grommet which protects the hydraulic line on reassembly!
Depends on the model year since '03/'04 and '05/'06 came with different fenders. For MY's '05/'06 the calipers and the wheel need to be removed.
No you can get the fender out on an 05/6 but it is a bastard of a job with lots of pressure and twisting . It's a complete F.U. Of a system and once off I ditched it for a carbon affair that is far easier. It can be done but there is the chance of scratching fender or fork leg lacquer.
I got it done using the clenched teeth, eyes closed & force it technique (a bit like my golf swing) Many thanks for all the advice guys.
