I've been watching quite a few YT videos by a chap called Dave Moss (on the throttle) which I've found pretty interesteing so I decided to email him to ask for advice about my 848 rear suspension which is rock hard. I got a reply back very quickly with suggested preload, compression and rebound settings based on my weight and that the stock spring should be OK, top bloke! Bit annoyed that Ducati don't supply the tools to make the adjustements, but have an adjustable c-spanner on order that I hope will fit both the shock and eccentric hub so I can do these myself. He also advised me to get a 'compression piston kit' for the forks as priority #1 for the bike. I've looked on Nitron and K-Tech's sites, but I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for. Is it just a valve or the whole innards? Prices range between 170 and over 1000 quid.
Oh, that Dave sounds like a decent bloke, specially if the settings actually feel good. As for the forks, give them K-tech, tell them you're weight and riding style and then be amazed. I had my 996SPS forks done a few years ago, new springs, valves and shim stacks in the forks, at least a new spring on the rear. All for about £375. Was through a mate who knew Ken quite well so don't know if it was a deal, but the result was absolute perfection.
Sounds good. Still waiting for the c-spanner so I can fix the back end, I'd forgotton to finish check-out so its been in my ebay basket for a day or so Doh! Hope it fits...
It's unusual that you say the front it too hard. Is this a new bike? Most have experienced the front too soft and had to make it harder. Before you start thinking about changing springs see about getting it set up for you and taking it from there.
K-tech is the place... I had my forks done by K-tech with new valves, springs etc. and I'm very happy with them. I also bought some new springs (softer) for the Monster from them last week and they fitted them free whilst I waited.
It's unusual because I didn't say the front was too hard, I said the rear was . Dave Moss suggested getting the front forks sorted. If the consensus is that the front is soft I'd have to agree, that's what it feels like to me.
Don't recall exactly as I had them done whilst being serviced but from memory the piston kit was around £200 and new springs around £80, all fitted whilst being serviced. I had 2 pairs done; 1 set of Showa, 1 set of Ohlins, IIRC the Ohlins piston kit was a little more expensive as they're bigger (25mm rather than 20mm).
