1260 Front Protection

  1. Evening all, still waiting for my new bike to arrive from Italy, making a parts list before she arrives.

Was thinking of the Evotech Radiator protection for definite, is it worth fitting a Fender Extender as well?

    Thanks

  2. Evotech rad and oil cooler guards are a must, I've also got the Evotech engine guard fitted, a nice bit of kit, personally wouldn't bother with a fender extender. Enjoy the new bike!

  3. I don't agree on the fender extender, it will reduce the amount of crap that will be thrown up onto that newly fitted engine guard.
I've also got a Pyramid Plastics additional extender, that has been incredibly useful in further reducing crud being thrown up by the front wheel.

At the end of the day, it's your choice and everyone has their own preferences.

  6. I've heard of a couple of incidents where, under heavy braking, a fender extender has got jammed between the bottom of the radiator and the cylinder head / engine guard, so worth bearing in mind if you do fit one!

  7. Just bought Rad and oil cooler kit. Thanks for the advice.

  8. I have a Pyramid Fender extender on my 1260S and it does cut down on the crud thrown onto the engine as I ride all year round.
Be aware the extender will make the front rear section flap about a bit and it may touch the tyre at times, it can be made stiffer by putting in two small bolts through the rear of the red part of the front guard to stop it flapping so much, there is a link with photos on here somewhere. If you have engine guards fitted then it can hook over the lower cross member of the guard rails - not good - I don't have engine guards in any case so not a problem.

  11. :( Yes I have heard of some similar incidents, however, I have never had such a problem with mine attached; (I know Steve123 also had the fender extender he fitted rub slightly on his front tyre, due to flexing)
It's been on my 1260MTS now for over 6k miles, on two 2k European trips across variable terrain, all tarmac I hasten to add, to date without any issue.
I have fitted it to the Ducati extender with four 4mm coated bolts with locking washers and really tightly too. It does flex slightly, due to the limited movement of the Ducati fitment, but doesn't interfere with the Evotech engine guard I've also got fitted.

It might well be a situation where I've had luck whereas some others may not. :upyeah:

  12. I have all three Evotech guards (rad, oil cooler and head) together with a fender extender fitted on my 1200S (MY 2017). The fender extender touches the head guard on full compression of the forks and gets a bit worn away as it moves into the tyre. I can't feel the clash under heavy breaking and I don't plan to remove the fender extender as it does such a good job. After 15,000 miles, about 5 mm has been worn away from the centre of the fender extender. I keep meaning to tidy up the worn edge - maybe this winter.

I believe there was a problem a front mudguard extension catching on a specific make of engine bar (Givi?) which had a bar across the front of the radiator. I understand this was a problem when fitting the long of two front mudguard extension supplied by Ducati and not a fender extender.

On my older 1200 Multis (2010 & 2013) the fender extender used to get worn away on the front tyre because of flexing of the front mudguard.
