Hi, Just got new sprockets and chain for my M900 '96. Just fitting the front sprocket and noticed the old sprocket has grinded out a groove in the swing arm (see photo). Has anyone else had this, or is there a problem with my swing arm...or worse!
Has the rear suspension ride height been cranked up, pushing the swinging arm down (relative to the bike) so that the lower front edge is nearer to the sprocket?
Aftermarket sprocket/incorrect spec front sprocket might have taller teeth than oem part so rubs . You need to compare to genuine item to check teeth height
I’m surprised no-one has suggested looking for free play in the swing arm pivot bearings and pin. Wouldn’t be the first time swing arm bearings have worn. Andy
I remember the sprocket being really close to the arm on my M900, almost touching, but there was definitely a fag paper type very small gap. The angle your arm sits at looks about right. I have a couple of M900 aluminium arms for sale at the moment and just blew up some images of them as I wanted to check the shape of the lugs where the sprue for the casting process was. The lug on the front of your arm does appear to be very slightly longer than either of the two I have:
