Hi lads, I've had the nut on my front sprocket fall off on a recent td - even though it was tq'd to 133 flt pound. Do any of you guys wire lock it and how? I've always done this on other bikes but can't fathom out how to do it on the 749 yet.
Was the washer behind the nut folded over onto one side of the nut. This helps prevent it working its way off the shaft. The pic shows the lip pushed up ready to undo.
Thank you. I think if I drill a hole in the tab and wire lock that to the sprocket ill be even happier. Might do two sides for ultra security. Can't have that coming off again.
Why don't they have a small tab bent 90 degrees inwards that goes in to a hole in the sprocket - ones I have seen always had. The tab bending up on it's own can't stop it coming loose if nothing bends in to the sprocket...
The washer is splined to the gearbox shaft like the sprocket. If it's flattened over the nut then it shouldn't be going anywhere.
Ah yes, silly me, then it shouldn't come undone - I guess you need a new washer every time or bend a new bit over to be safe.
Well in the end I drilled two holes in the nut and lock wired it to the sprocket (rental) top and bottom. Had the splined washer in two and bent one tab in between the wire locking. Locktited the nut too.
