Hi All , Opinions please - Is it worth replacing the front sprocket with a 14 Tooth one ?The bike is 2004 999s . Currently have 15t front and 36 t rear .
Hi Loz , thanks , I did a search and lost the will to live sifting thro them , maybe not specific enough with my wording .
Save yourself the trouble searching chase and just do it. It's quick and easy to do and it's not going to cost you much. If you don't like it, its simple to swap back. I'm betting you'll enjoy the change though, most do.
Got the sprocket . What's the best way to hold the sprocket/output shaft to undo the sprocket retaining nut ?I currently have the back wheel ,chain and swinging arm off . Are special tools required ?
I've done this and you'll need the all that hardware back on to change it. You can stand on the rear brake or get an assistant to do it as you crack the nut - but in my opinion the best way is to lock the back wheel at the same time. I'm afraid putting it in gear won't help either as its tourqed pretty high. The pikey way I do it is by placing a bit of wood in the rear wheel so when you start to undo the sprocket but the wood catches on the swing arm and prevents further wheel rotations. If this doesn't work an impact gun will remove it for sure.
