Another newbie question ... Sorry ;D I had the wheels of my MTS removed the other day to put on new tires. As I felt the bearings of the front wheel, they were hard to turn by hand, I do not know so from other mopeds. I then reinstalled it and the wheel actually turns nicely and the axle doesn't get hot either. What is your experience after 26,000km? I will change the bearings in any case soon, already because of the better gut feeling. Looking forward to your feedback. Thanks M.
It’s all down to what the term tight means to you. There is a certain amount of stiction by the seals which can make them hard to turn.If the wheel turns freely when installed in the bike with no play should be good.
There is a spacer in there too, between the two bearings. It has to be snug to stop the inner races getting squeezed when the axle is done up.
Maybe a language thing, since I am not a native english speaker but I do not understand what you want to tell me. Do you mean, the bearings are hard to turn by hand because of this spacer and this behavior is normal?
Was alarmed by this when I first changed tyres on my 1260, they seemed a little stiff but smooth. Some 15,000 miles later and they're still the same. Like you the wheel spins relatively freely though the discs do bind a little pushing the bike around but apparently that's quite common, if not universal, too. No issues when on the move, disks and wheel don't get hot. If they feel notchy/resistant in places, then that's different.
