1260 Fuel Cap Change

  1. Hi got this screw cap to fit to my 1260 multistrada. Now theres 2 pipes which connect to the original cap but on new 1 theres only 1.now 1 will be over flow and 1 a breather.
So question is which do I blank off and which do I fit new breather pipe to 20200704_131022.jpg 20200704_131014.jpg 20200704_130946.jpg

  2. It’s a good question. In theory couldn’t you have one pipe doing the job of both overflow and breather?

If that’s the case, you could remove one pipe altogether or blank it off. They both look to be a similar bore so working out where each pipe terminates might help you chose.

  3. Did you manage to get the cap off without removing the tank cover ? I understood that wasn't doable :(

  4. It's do-able chief, just have to be really careful and very dexterous hands and fingers, AMHIK, I saw a vid on YT where he broke the breather/overflow mouldings! Just take the bloody tank cover off and nuke the entire site from orbit!

  5. IIRC the one on the right is the overflow and the left breather, think the overflow terminates at the emission/evap pot on the lhs behind the rad! Breather possibly terminates there too!

  6. I’ll stand corrected, but on my spider cap you needed to use the guts of the original. Your replacement looks like it has no way of sealing to the tank without it. and it’s almost impossible to get it back together without lifting the tank cover because the sealing ring between the cap rim and tank cover has to be pushed over the cap. Not the other way round.
I might be wrong but in my opinion having done two, it’s the only way.

  7. If I’m right........
That may mean that the tube you’ve shown is an extra vent because is very high up.

  8. Thanks all for the info..
Just to answer some questions which rose.
You can fit the new cap without removing the tank cover .there is a rubber seal which compress onto of the tank to seal cap and tank.the rubber infill around the cap is awkward but cover it in rubber lube and a slow hand it goes in

  9. IMHO, remove the tank cover, it's a bit of a faff I know, but I think you'll be thankful if it all goes pete tong! o_O

  10. How do u remove the tank cover please?
I'm halfway through and can't get the bloody original assembly off or back on?!!
    HELP PLEASE

  11. Don’t know how far you’ve got in terms of fixings etc, but it’s a tight fit around the fuel cap. I got my hands around the spout and eased it off. A bit of WD won’t go amiss either.

  12. Correct, if sat on the bike, the RH nipple is for overflow and the LH is breather. If you do the evap delete mod, you'll need to get a new overflow pipe as it's too short.

You need to remove the black air intake covers (2 bolts either side under the key cap, then slide back to remove), then the 2 side panels, seat and at this point, you'll be able to access all tank fairing screws.

Note, when taking the cover off, be VERY careful unless you've left the fuel cap assembly screwed in, or you'll brake on of the nipples, ask me how I know :D

  13. Really struggled but managed to get it to go back on, so I think I'll just leave it as at is,,, scary...
