Well it finally happened the fuel sensor failed on my much under used 2016 Multistrada DVT with 3960 miles on the clock. Nice surprise on Tuesday morning just before the ride to the MOT station was the flashing lights on the dash. 'Bugger' great timing but not an MOT failure thank goodness. Back from the station with a pass now to solve the problem. No local Ducati dealer so this was a 'self fix'. A little research I found what I wanted from on Ebay Part number 59210212G from GT-online priced at £143.95. Not cheap but the latest version I believe. Unit arrived yesterday along with a fuel syphon kit from Amazon and off we go. Now I will admit I'm no longer as young and mobile as I was but by 7.30pm all was completed and working. The gauge was reading correctly without any dealer computer work. Long may it continue. The work isn't difficult...just take your time and remember the rubber pipes under the tank cover when you try to remove it. If you snap the fittings you are fecked. I have lots of plastic bags which I kept with each panel removed so I knew what went where on the refit. I used You tube to help understand some of the panel fixings just remember nothing needs to be pulled hard. Best of luck if you fancy a go. It's quite rewarding and a great deal cheaper. Regards. John
I had one go on my 2017 supersport S earlier in the year. I took the fairings off and my local little garage changed the sendor for me, only charged me £20 which I thought was a bargain.
I think it can often be a problem when the bike is not used that much. That said I’ve had three go on different models all with different circumstances!
My fuel sensor failed two years ago. The bike was out of warranty, so I had to pay for a replacement The replacement sensor has just failed Ducati needs to get a grip on this problem if it wants repeat customers, not pissed off ex-customers.
Thx John. Mine went last night on my way home from work. 2016 MTS DVT, 19300 miles. 1st failure as far as I can make out in the service record and receipts I hold as 2nd owner. Like you, at least I'm ok getting on the tools to fix it myself but still a pain in the arse.
Just done mine on a 2020 950s. Replaced the "F" prefixed part number with the latest "G" number. Fitting fairly straight forward, no need to remove tank and mess with plastic pipes at the front, just raised the rear enough to remove it .
I made the mistake of filling up in Feb with E10 and it stayed in the tank for 4 weeks . Fuel sensor stopped working but I put some Ethanol additive into the fuel and it's started working again. This was after I'd bought a new one from Moto Rapido Ducati (got a 10% reduction for being a Ducati Owners Club member). Luke at Moto Rapido was very helpful. Part number 59210212G - latest version of this shit design. Reduced from £145 to £131. They had a few in stock in case anyone needs one. Interestingly, it has a serial number on it. I think Ducati have done this so that they can track returns of defective ones as there's clearly enough people suffering failures of new ones. Ho hum. We'll see.
