1200 DVT Fuel Pipe Removal Help

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by knightrider, May 4, 2020.

  1. Anybody know how to remove this fuel pipe that’s attached to, I presume the pump, on the petrol tank..... before I break something like normal and then cost me a small fortune
    Cheers

  2. Always feels like it's going to break :( but to release push black part down pinch grey outer ring and pull black part up, should come out if you're lucky:upyeah:.

  3. Thank you :upyeah:

  4. Yeah just keep fiddling with it and it comes out eventually, couldn't figure how it worked even once I'd got it out but Kartman's instructions are correct I believe.

  5. Push right angle black pipe in then push grey ring in while maintaining pressure on black pipe then pull black pipe out. Easy. They can break.

  6. Yep, as above, don't force it, it will come with a bit of a fiddle...

  7. Mr.Knightrider, take a look to the picture attached (from the workshop manual) to see the correct way to dissasemble the pipe.
Anyway, I think this post on other forum can be usefull.

This man broke the connector, but find a solution, perfectly explained, please read the thread to the end. You'll find photos how to dismount the pipe, and if the unthinkable happens, there is a online shop's link to buy just the connector (is a Moto Guzzi spare part, exactly the same, tested by myself). Ducati don't sell this part but the complete fuel pump (€€€€€). Hope not to be too late.

    Regards.

  8. Thats confused me lol.

Does the grey part A just squeeze up, or does it turn to release the black piece numbered 6 ??

  9. If you look at the second picture it appears the grey collar is down more than the first picture. It maybe that you push the pipe down first and then the gray collar down to release the pipe?

  10. Doesn't turn just push down and squeeze it a bit worked for me eventually.

  11. I dont think you need to squeeze it, just hold down the grey collar tight and pull up the pipe. I know it sounds a bit simplistic but I have taken mine off more than a few times now.

  12. its like the speed fittings in plumbing tbh....push the lot down, hold the grey collar down and gently pull the black pipe up, its the pushing the collar down that releases the grip on the pipe, beware it will spill a tiny amount of fuel before it seals

  13. i had to remove my tank on my 15 plate 1200 dvt as the sender had packed up , i unwisely broke the grey piece off and all seemed ok when i refitted the pipe untill i had done 10 miles going on my hols last year when the bike cut out and sprayed fuel all over me . the fuel pipe had blown out . i thought i was doomed to catch my ferry but a cable tie wrapped around it cured it and its still ok a year later.what i found odd was my local ducati dealer (and 2 in europe )could not tell me if the clip comes with the pipe or the pump and seemed to have no idea about it ! thanks to the guy on here who says its a moto guzzi part and can be bought seperately.
