I head for the petrol station as soon as the light comes on, get to the station 12 miles later but only ever have to put in 10.5 litres, usually get 80 miles till the light comes on going by this I should get at least 35+ after the lights on safely. anyone else get this?
Slightly different being an 848 but I once did 35 on the light in the Pyrenees and thought I was sure to run out as we couldn't find a petrol station. When we eventually did I still in theory had over a litre left based on what the tank capacity should be and what I put in. Being a mountain road I thought it would splutter to a halt every time it went uphill and the fuel sloshed about but it never did but I was babying the throttle to eek it out as much as poss.
Take a 5ltr fuel tank with you (filled) and find out when you run out of fuel. Ride it gently & cautiously & you'll know the max miles of your bike.
Did 30miles on 848 to almost completely empty it, and ran out on 959 after 31miles on reserve.... So it seems around 40miles is spot on with smaller bikes. Probably pushing it on an 1198....
Not an enviable position to be in! I always take a battery pack for my phone in case that's low on juice too. No phone or fuel would be a combination from hell. Don't know about anyone else, but I get a rough deal on breakdown call out times. Reckon my average is about 3 hours from the RAC.
