These bloody bikes becoming a wealthy persons pastime now .......£136 for a new fuel sender. Mine was fully functional until yesterday. It seems they fail in two ways or both together.....sticking float or dry joints on the PCB. Mine has the dry joints issue . The resistance of the sender goes all over the shop if I bang the tank whilst watching the multimeter. Ive shoved a suitable resistor across the terminals to give me a half full display for now until winter......when I do the desmo service. I needed to do something because I found the fuel level ...engine light and fuel low level flashing was distracting me too much Sigh ...!
I'll probably see if I can get it apart and re flow the PCB joints . Although I guess it's possible there's a bouncy reed relay causing the issue Yes ......I've seen the guy on YouTube taking one apart ..
A major, consistent fault and we are still expected to pay to replace, often more than once - it's crap really. Masking tape works to stop the annoying lights.
Oh ....mine was an "F" ....that's it's second as it was replaced when I bought the bike in 2018 ....it's a 14 plate.....and had 850 miles on it when I bought it. Now has 13k on it ...
Just for info The DTC error logged P0460 [BBS] fuel level sensor [short circuit to positive or open circuit] Status:21
They all do it guvnah. I just put it down as a regular expense like oil and fuel. I do use it, so I will keep replacing when it fails. If I get more than two years out of the new one, its a bonus.
Thing is ...as it's an electronic issue ....dead easy to fix ....it's just getting to the PCB inside the tube looks like a pita
I wouldn't mind a duff sender with electronic issues that I could fix..... It would have to be a later one that does not need a firmware flash .....I believe they reversed the logic around in the later ones ...
I reckon there's a good bit of money to be made if you can find the fault and fix them. Especially if its a permanent fix.
