anything less than 4000 revs on my 2010 evo sp turns it into a chugging, lurching machine, after reading a glowing review of CJS racing on another thread and someone having their ecu remapped and now it is all sweetness and light i decided it was probably needed for mine, just to make it easier to ride at low speed, i spoke to Chris at CJS and was told that the stock settings on the sp's are pretty awful and he could turn it into a different bike, i would need to drop it into him by 8 in the morn and it would be ready by 4 in the afternoon and this would cost me £425 for the remap, now bristol is a bit of a distance for me (200 mile round trip) and to be honest i wouldn't be able to get there by 8 so i would need to drop it off one day and pick it up another, so that would be 400 miles and 2 days wasted. So i rang my local Ducati dealer (Duc Cov, 10 mile round trip) spoke to John and was told it could be sorted for £250 and it would take an hour, so what i want to know (the cash part isn't important) is what would they be doing so different that it takes a day for CJS racing to do it, and an hour for Ducati Coventry? any ideas?
CJS do a remap of the ECU on the dyno, optimising all fuel points. JHP's plan, I don't know. maybe a tps adjust.....................................
Probly a reflash using a map tha worked on a similar setup, CJS does a complete custom job to suit your setup. both will be a big improvement over the crap std maps, but I am happy that my CJS map is spot on for my bike config. not someone elses...
cheers, decided to take the trip to bristol and get it done there, like that i was told i could watch him do the work, wish i could be i'm going to have to leave it with chris and come back another day to pick up, will let you know how it handles when done
I have had my bike done by Chris and another alternative to consider is staying over night. There is a pub literally up the road about 5 minutes away that you can stay in, The Hunters rest. Save fuel and aggravation and just stay even for one night. I live in London so I made a trip out and had a wander around Bath and Bristol whilst my bike was being done plus I had a nice breakfast and an easy trip back to London on the following morning. The pub also does scrumpy style cider which is sold in the same complex as Chris works in, so if you are a cider drinker you can take home some of the local brew as well. It is worth a thought?
to be honest, perhaps i was expecting to much of a change, got it there for around 8 left around 6.30 chris worked on it all day, showed me all the graphs and maps and all the changes done, but most of it was over my head, rode it back home and it did feel a bit smoother at low speeds but not greatly, i think to be honest as i'm a bit of a novice biker what was done to it was a bit of a waste on me, if i could handle it a bit better i may have been able to tell there was a big difference, overall nothing but praise, but if you ain't great in the saddle it ain't gonna make you any better
Its a shame you didn't get the improvement you were hoping for - you might also want to consider lowering the gearing by dropping a tooth up front which would probably help at around town speeds. Compared to my gixxer the hyper is shocking at low revs but then again it will pull your nuts off from about 3k whereas the gixxer was like a pussycat at 3k so I guess you can't have it all ways.... The long and short of it - you can't polish a turd!
Hi, im suprised to hear not much change, is the cat still on, & is the aibox std? I tried the 14t pre-mapping & it made no real improvement, post remap I have refitted the std 15t & it fuels fine at 30mph in 4th, as standard no gear was acceptable.
No cat on exhaust, but this was taken into account on the remap, the front sprocket had already been knocked down to a 14t pre remap so it is Interesting you mention putting the 15t one back on, can't really see how it would make much difference, I think the problem is I was expecting it to perform like some super smooth jap bike after remap but that was never going to happen
This maybe a stupid question but the only bike I had before this was 5 years ago and that was Kawasaki z750 and then I had a break and got a 696 monster which I had for about 2 months then sold it to a mate and got my Evo sp, not knowing a great deal about bikes are the Kawasaki and dukes completely different rides? Chalk and cheese?
Chalk and cheese? DEFINATELY, personally I dont like the buzzines of a 4, or 3 for that mater, in comparisson, a Duke will always feel like a tractor, but if mapped correctly & if throttles are balanced correctly you should be able to run part throttle low revs at a constant speed without any snatchiness or hesitation, eg: 3rd gear at a constant speed of 30mph shold run crisp & clean, but dont expect wide open throttle at these revs to be smooth, will shudder a lot, & not to mention over stress the motor, wide open throttle above 4500 rpm should be much smoother.
Just read this post....without sounding creepy you could have stayed at our place overnight...weve got a spare room. Lougi moto's is about 20 mins from our house. Ironically when I dropped my rsv4 over there we gave a bloke a lift back to the station who dropped off a 1098. Nice bloke I am!!
That's ironic....having just bought my second hyper (getting delivered tomorrow hopefully) I used to have a z1000 about 4 years ago and this time I was looking at the z800 and a ktm 690 smcr while the z was a beautifully smooth ride I did enjoy the lumpiness of my old hyper which is what made me go for another.
yeah - i know....but if i could have saved somone a load of hassle then i wouldnt have minded....its a shitter to find isnt it....the only reason i gave the other guy a lift back to the station was that i ended up driving around with him and the wife following in the car...plus its out in the middle of nowhere.
Damn right it was a shit to find, Chris said they don't like to have any boards up advertising the place as the have a lot of pikey thefts around there and they don't want to advertise they have some tasty bikes and tools lying around over night, still it's all done now and although it's not what I expected I'm now at the stage where there is nothing else I can do to the bike (maybe get a rizoma rearset fitted with mot and service next year) apart from learn how to ride it properly
I see what you mean....I had an 1100s 18 months ago and there was nothing wrong with it..... It was maxed out on the upgrades but I've never owned anything with fairing before so I got an rsv4 factory which is amazing but not a bike you can use everyday..... She's let me keep the rsv and the hyper is getting delivered Wednesday. It's the perfect scenario been able to own the two types of bike that I love.... Awesome.
