Is everyone's useless? Mine seems to have a massive hole in the middle, it'll light up a big circle but nothing in the centre! Cheers, Bluey.
Yup, from what I can remember the main beam was hopeless, on par with the OEM mirrors. I know have a single projector headlight which uses main and dip on the same lamp set up....also if I run my bike up and leave it to stand, the light automatically switches itself off after 2 mins as not to overheat. My old magnesium headlight bucket got fried from the original lights when left standing when running.
Hmm, thanks. I might try a bulb upgrade then and see if that helps at all, not HID though as it would take too long to light up for full beam use.
I have Osram Nightbreakers in mine, which helps. You may have a cheap bulb in there, it's surprising how precisely they need to be manufactured and cheapies can be useless. Also, some people carry out a mod to keep the dipped beam on along with the main beam. It involves soldering two wires together with a bridging wire in the switch assembly.
Yeah I saw that mod but was worried it would overload the circuit and fuse. I have been looking at other bulb options too. HB3 right?
To be honest mine is totally standard and is pretty much perfect. Lights up the road ahead perfectly when needed to. In fact I burnt a tree down with it the other day and melted the paint off a on coming bus !!!:Smuggrin::Smug::Shifty:
I fitted nightbreakers, that made a big improvement, though the aim was too low on dip and too high on main. Adjusting the throw is a pita as the adjusters don't seem to help much.
mine were low when i went for an MOT and it took me ages to wind in the height needed using the adjusters. they require a painful number of turns to get any meaningful adjustment.
Yep, the twiddles on the 749/999 headlamps are insane. Twiddle it until you are convinced that it's having no effect, then twiddle it the same amount again. Then double the number of turns you have twiddled already, discover that you were turning it the wrong way, and book a week off work so that you can repeat the same process in the opposite direction. Simple. Ish.
