Just wondering if anyone has fitted the Fullsix carbon heat shield to a Panigale and if so had any issues with discolouration or has all been well?
Hi mate, Yes I have fitted one to my 899...I was advised to fit the original metal heatshield insert from the original plastic heatshield on the underside of the carbon to prevent the carbon burning etc. As discolouration is not considered a warranty issue by fullsix.... Problem being is the metal insert to the original heatshield when put inside the carbon heatshield sticks out as the sides are longer. I did cut my metal part down with a dremel to fit inside. It is a tight fit inside the carbon heatshield. On fitment of mine after faffing around for hours cutting and trimming the metal part, I didn’t end up fitting the metal part as the bolts didn’t seem long enough and I wasn’t 100% on the fitment of it. In the end I just fitted the carbon part only.... It has been on the bike for approximately 1 year, around 1500 miles.... I have noticed some very slight burning/discolouration on one of the edges if you look closely, but to tell you the truth all though it’s a shame it hasn’t bothered me massively. Other thing is the foil on the heat matting on the inside of the heatshield has started to peel away slightly, again, hasn’t bothered me massively as I think no matter what heatshield you go for they are always subject to some sort of heat stress due to the high temps from the exhaust... One last thing to check is that the bolts supplied with your heatshield don’t ground out on the exhaust. I found that one of mine kept coming loose and that was why. Just cut it down slightly and then refitted. I, like most people went for the fullsix carbon fibre heatshield on reccomendation that they do not burn so easily, but to tell you the truth, all though I am happy with mine, I think they are all very much the same and are subject to some sort wear and tear.... Hope this helps
Appreciate that thanks very much. So obviously you fitted it yourself... how much of a faff was it? Also what brand of rear hugger is that? seem to match well
Yeah I guess it is a bit of a faff, but being a mechanic/engineer by trade not a massive mountain to overcome. Basically all you have to do is lift the tank, undo the lower rear subframe mounting bolts, loosen the top mounting bolts and then lift the rear subframe to access the bolts on the top as there is not enough clearance to remove. I beleive there is a thread on this somewhere on the forum but here is a picture from that thread to show you. The fullsix carbon heatshield is definitely more a a matt finish than the dp matt carbon. In the picture i previously attatched I had wiped it over with some silicone spray on a rag to clean... The rear hugger and other carbon on my bike is all DP. Hope this helps. If you get stuck then just drop me a pm
Mine has been on for 3 years and nearly 15,000 miles. It has coloured but it’s not bad, if you look for the browning it’s there but not something you see easily. Fitting was a pain but not horrific, just be prepared to remove parts to get to it. The foil lining came away quiet quickly on mine.
