Hi all, I'm doing a bit of a project on my 1198SP at the moment, (have a look over in the projects section) and have been trying to install a fullsix mono seat unit and under tray. They're great items, fit together perfectly when not on the bike, but when put on the bike, there is a huge gap at the rear... have a look at the pictures and see what you think. If I push down on the seat unit it lines up almost perfect. Furthermore, I looped a couple of tie-wraps around the rear light supports on the carbon and on the subframe, pulled tight and again, lines up almost 100%. Now I know I've only used tie-wraps, but it's the same thing as bolts for this purpose (it lines everything up and creates a proper fit), but there seems to be something missing. Any thoughts?
Hmm, unfortunately i don't think there is a bit missing, rather just a bad part. I had the same with an ignition cover, had to seriously modify it to get it to fit, and even then it wasn't perfect.
I had that very problem with mine while trying to fit a CF seat fairing. You could try pulling the under tray up to the seat unit, fixing it (while on the bike) with cable ties or something like that then heating the undertray up gently to form the right bend. I ended up having to get another undertray. Best of luck! Ian
Is there meant to be a couple of screws at the aft edge that connect the undertray to the seat unit? I have a fibreglass race unit on mine and it has two screws in the undertray that screw upwards into the seat unit.
Was that from Fullsix? I've not installed much of it, but it does seem excellent quality. I've checked on various websites and all the pictures are more or less the same. Don't think there are any parts missing and the supplier (MR) confirmed the same. Think we have a fix for it though, which I'll try over the next few days.
My part wasn't, no. Was just a cf piece slightly out of kilter. Would love to know the weight of your bike once done mate, interesting build.
Thanks. I might hold off on heating it. Doing to do a temp rebuild of the tank panels, seat pad and then the unit and under-tray to see if it pulls itself together (and start's to behave...)
Fullsix offer two types of under tray. One with tabs, one without. The one with is for installation with OEM biposto seat unit. The other is for their own mono/bip seat unit. The under-tray has a section at the rear to bolt on to the number plate mounting bracket, and two at the side toward the front. These tie in the under-tanks panels. The mono seat has only 4 holes at the front. Two for the seat pad/subframe and two to fix to the sub-frame (these are the ones tie-wrapped in the picture above).
I'm think it's just a bad unit. I'm going to work with it, but not cut/modify it. If it's not fitting, it's going back...
Although Fullsix's (they used to be CDT before the rename) stuff is reasonably well made, I don't think the fit is 100% spot on all the time. I bought their carbon air tubes last year, they were beautiful, but when fitted, the right hand side tube rubbed on the bottom yoke (I think) when on full lock and there was no way they would fit properly. Sent them back and haven't found a decent set of carbon air tubes since
Hmmm, I'm hoping I can get it to work... all the holes line up perfect, but it just rises at the back with all tied down. I'll keep at it. I have the street airducts too, should have them on a trial fit soon. I'll take pictures for you.
Well I put the back of the bike together today to make sure rear end does fit as it should. Installed the tank panels and I can indeed confirm that it does make a difference to the upper tail piece. How bizarre.... There is a smallish gap on one side, the left which I'm sure I can sort with some nylon washers. Nice
I had this same problem on my 1098s. I ended up making a vertical aluminium post with a tapped hole in the top that screwed to a lateral bracket I made up. The top of the seat panel had a small hole in it that lined up with the top of the aluminium post and when screwed down pulled the two together perfectly.
Topo, That sounds ideal. Do you have any pictures of what you did? I think I've got a fix, but your solution seems far better. Thanks in advance.
IIRC I ended up ditching the CF undertray and using the stock plastic item, having ground away the plastic hooks on it, as the CDT monoposto seat did not have corresponding slots in it, and the CF undertray just would not sit flush all around the lower edge of the seat. The CDT biposto seat did have slots, so I did use the CF undertray. Here are some links from the Ducati Superbikes forum from around 7 years ago. Hopefully some of the info in here will help you. Initial questions I raised about carbon seat units can be found in this thread: CF monoposto tail/seat unit - some questions - Ducati Superbikes This next thread is from my Project 1098SPS which had over 17,000 views. Been a while since I did all this stuff now. Look at posts 137 and 359 for the CDT Biposto seat unit, the CF undertray bolted directly to the upper part, sandwiching the frame. Project 1098SPS - Ducati Superbikes OK after much searching I found the subsidiary thread I made when I upgraded some of the original parts on the project. Start reading from post 66 and pics from post 91 which details the part you are interested in for the CDT monoposto seat unit. IMHO Despite how nice the CF undertray looks, you will get a much better, flusher fit, if you use the OEM plastic undertray and dremel the hooks off it, so it sits nice and snug against all the edges of the monoposto seat. Lastly check post 84, which explains all the fitting combinations Project 1098SPS is over...now the - Ducati Superbikes - Page 4 Hopefully there is enough info here to help you Regards Topo
