Not a Ducati, but a friend's sv 650, 12.5 v at the battery, turn ignition on, 0v at the battery, no ignition lights, turn off battery back to 12v, repeat and battery voltage drops each time, no smoke that I can see, bike was running ok ( lights on) is the battery goosed?
Try a known good battery on it and see if it starts but I’ve had batteries in the past that show good voltage until you press the starter and nothing but then return to good voltage again. Sounds like it may be knackered
Thank You, it's happening when the ignition is turned on but lights may have been on, I'll suggest she tries a new battery
Yes thanks, I think it is as she was following me and I'm sure that her lights were on, but when we stopped it wouldn't restart, but will check thank you
Battery itself is main suspect, but corrosion on battery post/connections or loose connections can create the same symptoms.
The lights will stay on until the battery is fully drained. Had this on a Fireblade and a Paso a few years ago, first I knew on the blade was it just cut out. I’d ridden it 100 miles before it died. The reg/rectifier was goosed. I’ve also had a BMW R1150RT not want to restart when the out on a run, left it 20 minutes to cool down and then it would start up as expected. Changed the battery and the problem didn’t persist.
both ends of the "big" leads (+and-) need checking of course. i can immediately think of 4 occasions over the years, one amusing, where this was the cause.
Just to close this off, she took battery to be tested, 7% condition so was advised to get a new one, thanks for your help here folks
