Garage Matting Recommendations?

  1. Hi all,
Have just finished sealing/painting the garage floor and was looking for suitable rubber flooring or matting for the bikes to stay comfy :). Was thinking rubber backed of some sort as the old bonnie likes to mark the territory a bit.

Need something to sit flat and be hard wearing enough for paddock and side stands and oil drips. Approx 2.5mt both ways.

So many cheap looking tiles and thin rubber out there.. , just wanted to ask for fellow members recommendations thanks :upyeah:

  2. Use cheap foam Halfords ones and been fine for years

  3. I have used Rolson interlocking tiles in my workshop with aluminium chequerboard plate fixed over the top where my my old British bike likes to mark its territory. These tiles can be bought from Halfords or available on line.

  4. Cheers guys. Sounds like an opportunity to use my new Ducati forum Halfords trade card!
Are these tough enough themselves for side stands?

  5. Th y leave dents of course but mine seem to pop out ok. Side stands and centr stand on multi for over 4 years never torn one yet

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  6. No,they will dent.

  7. I considered the interlocking tiles - but went for thick carpet tiles in the end. Lots of 2nd hand job lots out there - bought enough for 2 garages for about 60gbp in near new condition. So if any carpet gets worn, i can just swap that one out.

Side stands leave a mark but generally go away after an hour or so. Paddock stands not had any issues so far about leaving a mark

  8. Used to have this. Reason I went foam in the end is that nuts were easier to find (most times tend to be mottled loop carpet) and they were softer on my knees so didn't always need to use another pad if laying or kneeling for a time.

  9. My garage floor is painted and sealed but I wanted a warm? zone under the bike, By chance one of the neighbours had thrown some cheap carpet out for the bin men, the type landlords use, no real pile at all. it covered the bike footprint and 3ft extra all around, recycling and free. Had they not done that the gumtree/ebay for carpet remnants or last resort, a shop.

  10. I used a company called Polymax, they're down south. Grey check plate design which is oil, petrol, solvent proof etc. Was an end of roll bit but long enough for garage floor with bit left over. £198 delivered. Very happy with it. A doddle to keep clean too.

  11. I just bought a rubber sheet 3x6meters@ 8mm thick with checquered models on one face from ebay.
    Think is was around £140
Good with paddock stands and side stands leave no mark.

  12. I used the interlocking rubber tiles as I was given nearly enough to do the whole workshop.
These are lovely and warm but they dent terribly, even just from the weight of the bike on its tyres, and the dents don't self-repair very quickly at all.
Sidestands etc were completely out of the question without putting annoying wooden pads under them and paddock stands weren't any better.
So, I covered the entire floor in 18mm exterior ply on top of the tiles.
This is now brilliant, having the insulation value from the tiles but also being very easy to sweep clean.
Cutting the 8x4 ply sheets to fit accurately and neatly was a challenge though.
