Bought a Garmin 350LM. Does anyone know whether I can power it from the Multi's Hella power sockets rather than hardwire it? Are the power sockets stepped down from 12V, or does anyone know who supplies a USB adapter for them? Hardwiring it means finding a place for the inline voltage converter, which is quite bulky. I had one of those elbow USB adapters but it never felt secure and, somewhat inevitably, disappeared one day! I would prefer to get one of those simple, small, straight USB adapters that are available for standard-size cigarette lighters/power supplies.
sure you could power it from the accessory sockets, but they are on the same fuse as the socket provided for the gps anyway. They are all at 12v, as you would expect. I would suggest extending the gps connector up to a convenient place near the bars. My preference is under the fuse box cover on the left hand side. I can provide such a lead if it helps. You could even fit another accessory socket up near the bars. Be aware that any plug in accessory socket to usb converter (loads of them on ebay) will not be waterproof. Hope that helps.
Thanks. Very helpful. Where is the GPS socket located on the 2013 model? And a lead would be useful. How can I pay you?
Hi, sorry for delay, been a bit busy ! The socket is in the same place as for earlier models, on the left side under the tank. Remove the black trim and its right by the relays. There are pics on motorcycleinfo here: Motorcycle Info Pages - 'How to' & FAQs > MTS1200 GPS Mount Install Send me a pm with what you want to do. I can put a plug on your mounts lead too if necessary. All the best, John.
