1260 Garmin Xt Mount On 1260 - Advice Please

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by PaulBux, Jan 14, 2023.

  1. Good evening all,

I’m looking to mount a new Garmin XT onto my 1260s and would appreciate any advice please for the best mount for a tall rider? I’m 6ft 2” so would need it positioned high enough so as to not obscure the TFT screen.
Are there any other tall riders out there with this issue, If so I’d really appreciate your experience and advice please?

I’m currently thinking of the Palmer Products screen spacer, with the XT clamped to the accessory bar, as it looks like it would be high up. Not sure how stable that would be though, fairly good I would have thought.

    Any advice most welcome,

    Thanks.

  2. Consider Navihalter or similar

  3. Any mount that attaches above the clocks such as Navihalter, OEM DUCATI or Iconic will vibrate a little, mainly over poor road surface rather than engine vibes. This is down to the slight play in the screen adjustment mechanism rather than the design of these mounts. Having said that the XT is lighter than its predecessors and is thus less affected by this.

The OEM Ducati mount is designed for the Zumo 395/6 Garmin models which use a different mount hole pattern. All other Garmins I know of, including the XT, use the industry standard AMPS pattern. As a result, for this mount, you'd need to buy the OEM adapter plate.

All these high mounts put the GPS usefully in the riders line of sight. I'm 6' tall and this works well for me. OEM Ducati mount and Zumo XT (previously a Zumo 590).

Not too sure on the availability of the Navihalter or Ducati mount these days, I got the latter 4+ years ago.

I don't have any experience with the Palmer Products mount. Is this the screen adjuster with added accessory bar?

  5. I prefer Evotech over any brand if they have an accessory. It's always top notch quality and great customer service.

  6. i have used the Evotech to mount my Zumo XT on both my Multistradas .... really like the design and build quality.

i'm also 6'2" tall, and find the viewing angle to be perfect.

"Any mount that attaches above the clocks such as Navihalter, OEM DUCATI or Iconic will vibrate a little" ... this is actually a benefit, as if all the road vibrations were transmitted to the Zumo, it would not be a good thing ... electronics do not necessarily play well with vibration over the long haul.

    just my humble opinions.

  7. Yea, even the evotech one wobbles, it's by design. I'd rather a wobble than a harsh shake every bump.

  11. Thanks for all of the helpful replies guys, I think the Evotech sounds good, so I’ll give that a try.

Thanks for confirming the viewing angle is perfect John, with you also being 6ft 2”, just what I was looking for, some first hand experience. I didn’t want to order something, find it’s not great and then have something I can’t return.

    Thanks again lads.

  12. There is an adjuster for the rotation of the mount at the top to angle the satnav screen to suit your height.

  13. I use the Palmer products bar. Means i can have my sat nav (XT) and phone next to each other. I've had no issues re. vibration and it also has the bonus of changing the screen angle. Well worth the money.
