hi,just phoned local ducati dealer for a generator cover gasket for my 1998 900ss and was informed they recommend using liquid gasket and dont supply a proper gasket now,is this correct? does anyone know where i could buy a gasket as that is what i would prefer, thanks steve
That is correct. The cases go back on with Threebond sealant. Contact @Exige on here as he's setting up to bring CA Cycleworks parts over and they provide gaskets. May be able to help you out.
yep, that seems to be the case. There are some around, although check model fitment carefully. Stein Dinse seem to have something (though '98 900 not specifically listed) and you can get them in the States (e.g. Gotham Cycles or Moto Wheels). I'm going to try refitting mine with liquid gasket/Three Bond stuff as that's the "factory" method, apparently (cue oil all over the path....). MICK..
Just refitted my alternator case with ThreeBond..... ....(that's what was there when I took the cover off, no gasket; didn't leak)....... .....refilled the oil....... Can't start the bike yet......... So, I'm just waiting to see if it starts dripping.......
I bought a gasket set from Ducati Kamna in Germany; Suchergebnisse für: '11005059.1' | Ducati & Aprilia-Tuning Kämna But then used threebond instead. So if you're after them I've got all three main paper gaskets; crankcase and both side covers (I used the other gaskets in the set). Let me know if you're interested.
Three bond all the way! Used it on all my bikes no leaks so far. However, a friend used it and stupidly got it in a bolt hole, tightened the bolt and cracked the casing (hydraulic pressure I guess!) so be careful not to do that lol
