1260 Gear Lever (quickshifter) - Should It Get Tightened?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by DylanS, Feb 24, 2021.

  1. Hey folks,

While cleaning the bike I noticed that the gear lever, more specifically where the quick shifter is, was not really thighten properly and the quickshifter could move a little like so:

Is this normal or should I tighten the bolts so that the quicksifter box should not rotate ?

    Thanks!

  2. From your picture it appears that you are twisting the gear shift rod along its axis. This is normal as there are spherical bearings at each end of the linkage which can rotate approx 20deg “out of plane”.

  3. Thanks for the reply.
I see what you mean, but is is normal that there is space between the spherical bearing at each end and the nut (the bearing can wiggle between the nut and the lever on both ends)? Is there supposed to be leeway there ?

  4. Great thanks !

  5. As long as he nut is tight on the bolt through the spherical bearing at each end of the rod, everything should be fine and the rod should be able to rotate about its axis on the bearings.

  6. There’s a rose joint on either end, it’s designed to do that.

  7. Yup now I see it. Thanks a lot peeps !
