Hi All New V4s since Sep 2021 and have just done over 8,000 miles. I noticed that the heated grips would not turn on followed 10 min later by the "Low Charge" battery warning light. After recovery by AA to the dealer and 2 hours of diagnostics, it transpired that the generator was only working at 1/2 of its required charge output. So, a new generator is required at 6 months old,? really? Worse still the part will take 7 days from Italy and I have a euro tour starting in 5 days. Do you think the dealer should lend me a bike for my trip ??
You can only ask. My GS needed a new immobiliser/key barrel. Quoted 10 day turn around so got a BMW M Sport for the time. BMW have a deal with Enterprise Rental if your bike is off road due to warranty issue. Know someone who’s big BMW tourer has been in dealer for months and he’s been touring on the loan bike they gave him.
My dealer wouldn't entertain the idea when I had a problem with mine before a big tour, however they got the part delivered urgently and fitted it in time.
I would have thought the dealer could have expedited the replacement part either from Italy or from another dealer based on your travel plans, perhaps provide them with some basic confirmation of your travel itinerary to confirm it's a genuine requirement.
