Generator

  1. Anyone tell what size/power whatever genny I need to run a pair of tyre warmers? Someone told me they sap a lot of power.

  2. I run a 3KW and don't put the kettle on at the same time as the warmers. Your warmers should have a power consumption rating, add about 20% and you should be fine. Andy

  3. You only need 1kw really, 1.5 ideal as you can then charge a phone etc too and you are not at max power all the time. No need to spend a fortune.

But if you are .... Get one of the whisper quiet suitcase ones. Worth the extra £100 IMHO

  4. Cheers chaps. In the first instance I'm borrowing one which is 3 Kw so I should be fine. I would like a super quiet suitcase genny but I really need one for work as well which will have to be bigger. Can't really afford two..

  5. Most warmers are around 900-1000w per pair (1kva)
Kettles can be anything up to around 2.5kva, so be warned that a hot cup of coffee might = cold tyres

  6. My Diamond tyre warmers needed 1200W in total. My previous set of HWW's needed 1000W. So I'd err on the side of caution and go for a generator of 1500w or above. Remember to check the Generator's quoted wattage to see if it's 1500w peak or constant. Your tyre warmers will need constant.

And yes, I do have a good, cheap generator for sale:)

I did use it for my tyre warmers, at Anglesey and Cadwell. But I tend to do more Euro events now and if I do UK tracks, it's mainly ones with lots of garages & power points. Let me know and I can send you some pics.
