  1. Geoffrey Wellum DFC, the youngest Spitfire pilot in The Battle of Britain has passed away. Very sad loss of a great man. If you've never read his book "First Light" you should, it gives an amazing insight into the experience of an 18 year old just out of school who just a few months later was fighting in the skies from the cockpit of his Spitfire and then later was also involved in defending Malta. Can't be many pilots who made it through the whole of WW2.

  3. Great book, better than the TV adaptation IMHO. Really showed what it was like particularly the training. Gave our family some insight to what my Father in law went through as we knew little
     
  4. Read his book and as mentioned a brilliant insight into what it was like as a young man in those exciting/bloody dangerous times.

    Shame these old boys are departing now. Respect to them all.
