Hi all, there's a group of us going to the Germn GP in July. I'm trying to find a b&b near (30miles or so) the circuit. Leipzig area would be good. Has anybody stayed in that area before that could recommend something, there will be 7 of us. Preferably with secure bike parking.
Here are my tips. Leipzig is probably too far from the circuit as a base (about 60 miles). I would recommend a city called Chemnitz. Lots of good places to eat and drink in the centre. When we stayed there we used the Achat Hotel Chemnitz and the Etap Chemnitz South West (both hotels are close together). We never had a problem with the bikes and just daisy chained then together. If you don't fancy riding to the circuit, then at the bottom of the road is a tram that takes you to Hohenstein-Ernstthal. The tram is worth considering as beer is served all day at the circuit. If you do go to the circuit on your bikes then navigate your way to the junction of Waldenburger Strasse/Am Sachsenring/Hohensteiner Strasse. This is the main entrance to the circuit. There is a car dealers there that close and let you park on the forecourt for €3. Make sure you buy some stand tickets. Be aware that if you go infield it will take ages to get out as there is only a single footbridge over the track and it clogs up.If you are after something different then Colditz Castle is only 40 miles away from the circuit. The former German Garrison has now been converted into a Youth Hostel. It is cheap but you have to use bunk beds. The parking is secure because you are in the main courtyard insdie the castle. We stayed there for one night as part of our trip. Colditz: DJH Youth Hostel Colditz Schloss, Saxony - Youth Hostels The weather can be a bit iffy there. First time I went it was 40 deg C. The next two times rain and thunder storms.
I'm going as well with my old man, the wifes cousin and his old man. we are staying in the Ibis Budget in Chemnitz (I think the continental name for Ibis is Etap) We have booked tickets for the Turn 3 stand which I think is the Ducati stand (although most of us will be riding Triumphs).
If it's the Etap on Carl-Hamel-Straße, that's where we stayed. It's about 20 minutes to the circuit. If you get a taxi into the city centre then these are some good places to eat and drink Turmbrauhaus.de ::: Das Brauhaus in der Chemnitz City ::: Neumarkt 2 ::: 09111 Chemnitz CAFEMOSKAU-CHEMNITZ.DE | Restaurant, Catering, Menue, Cocktails, Pasta, Desserts, Salate, Softdrinks, Speisen, Billard und und und Not in the city centre, but this place is good as well http://www.espitas.de/landkarte/chemnitz.html
There's a group of 4 of us going(2 couples) We have booked rooms at Central Hotel in Gera which is 25 Mile away. Cheap, Chemnitz was double price. Gera looks good and has Irish Bar near our hotel. Booking.com: Centralhotel , Gera, Germany - 243 Guest reviews . Book your hotel now!
The German MGP is the weekend before WDW. There will be loads of Ducatista there enroute to Misano. Book early to avoid disappointment.
