The govt could make E10 (10% Ethanol) the standard fuel in the UK. Greener Petrol at pumps to target emissions
What models does it affect? I’ve a Monster 1100S 2009 which has a plastic tank, I think, so far it seems ok
Perhaps the more experience forum members on here could list all the models with plastic crap petrol tanks for us layman in life.
There’s a list on the Bennetts website but as far as the 1098 goes, they’re all buggered including mine unless it’s a very late 2009 model or an R
All 1098's were plastic, 1098R's are plastic too. 1198R's are alloy as are 1198 SP's and Corse S I think they were called some 848's had alloy too SP EVO's...
A number of Sport Classics were adversely affected by E10 in the U.S. IIRC. Warped tanks & some became quite loose.
I've checked the garage. My 3 Ducatis have metal tanks. 3 others in there do too. Unfortunately the most important one (Vespa) has a plastic one. Just my luck.
I did notice at the bottom of the link in the story, the chancellor is expected to scrap a subsidy on diesel used by the farming and construction sector in an effort to encourage a switch to greener alternative fuel vehicles and help the UK meet its climate change targets. He is set to announce in next week's budget that red diesel, will no longer attract a lower fuel duty. It currently accounts for about 15% of total diesel sales in the UK and costs the Treasury about £2.4bn a year in revenue.
I shall defer to your superior knowledge on this. I was just going by the Bennetts Facebook link yesterday (which I now can’t find) That said IIRC that the 2009 1098S and the R model would be OK. Either way it looks like I’m buying expensive fuel in future
2nd gen 848 Corse had larger metal tank, all the other 848, and streetfighter tanks are plastic. As others have said there may be some other issues with the fuel line in terms of high ethanol content, perhaps different spec fuel filter required (would be interested to see if other markets already use different ones) but probably it's mostly the tank. Bikes like RSV Millie's also use Plastic tanks etc so there are a lot of bikes out there that will suffer.
