Had a serious cycling accident last weekend. He is OK and should make a full recovery but has trauma to his spine. Our number 1 umbrella holder had a crash last Friday on his bicycle, with some serious injuries to his C4 vertebra and spinal cord. Luckily he will make a full recovery. Wishing the boss a speedy recovery, take it easy TB: Troy Bayliss: "I'm OK and I'm home, but the crash means I won't be riding a motorcycle until I regain full movement in my arms and hands. I really just wanted to let everyone know what's happened, that I'm OK and that I'll be back in leathers as soon as I can. It's been an intense weekend for me and my family, but luckily I'm OK and I will recover. My doctors have been really positive, but there's no firm indication of how long it will be until I can regain enough control to get back on a bike – maybe a few months, maybe longer; it just depends on how the recovery goes once the bones heal up." With Troy having no exact recollection of the incident, it appears that another bicycle was exiting between two parked cars and he has collided head first into it. Most of the impact was transferred through his head to his neck, and he lost consciousness. He was immediately treated and taken to hospital. While the injuries are serious, Troy's condition is stable. He returned to his Gold Coast home on Monday to begin his recovery.
Just lifted from Twitter just now. I’ve said it before and I will say it again…….pushbikes are a menace! https://twitter.com/ducaticorse/status/1394898605102800897?s=21
It's an amazing thing with these motorcycle racers over the years that race up to speeds of 200mph and then they've a ridiculous silly slow one at home & do more damage.
Maybe they just haven’t the skillz required to be allowed out on a public highway on pushbikes, mucho saferer in a car.
Over confidence comes to mind with these sports people, you can't be good at everything inlife or can you.
At the top level excellence is required in all sports to win, any other sport these pro’s do they’re just good. Without knowing the full story it would seem in this case a random third party was involved, however we don’t know how the accident occurred as the information is scant.
Get well soon champ ! https://www.bikesportnews.com/news/news-detail/bayliss-fractures-vertebrae-in-cycling-crash
Yep. What happened to Michael Schumacher is also ridiculous. He survived decades of F1 racing when it was still fairly dangerous and afterwards went into motorbike racing just for something to do, but then ended up in a PVS after falling over at 12mph.
Great bloke, my hero! Get well soon Troy, ..these fekkin pushbikes are dangerous! I ride em and I know so many people that have had bad accidents on them , remember poor Nicky Hayden?
Agreed you spend a significant amount of your life putting it in harms way only to get knobbed doing a arguably less dangerous pursuit as a bit of fun. His injuries were compounded though by his decision to mount a camera to his helmet that had a metal base sadly. Yep, a chap I knew in passing got dragged under a caravan sustaining very serious injuries and a few others I know have had injuries from collisions with vehicles Wasn’t Nicky Hayden’s death due to a collision with a motor vehicle
Anything worth doing has an element of risk, other than maybe, siting on yr arse at the staring window, make your choice.
Put your missus on the mic and let's hear her side of the story and then we can decide if your telling the truth or not.
I've bounced my head of the tarmac at 3 figure speeds (trackday) , knocked myself out and been taken to hospital for scans and ended up walking away unscathed. Banged my head on scaffold at work and severe neck injury with disc bulge at c6, 2 years on. As people say funny how we get hurt. GWS Troyhuge fan
Yep. Last year I survived a trip across the grass at Brands and caning it around a wet and oily Blyton track with a dodgy gear shift, a throttle that kept sticking open and forks that kept bottoming out the end of the straight which made the front skip across the tarmac…… only to dislocate my shoulder and trap my radial nerve as it popped back in when trying to free my ear from the lining of my helmet. It’s still painful now
