1200 DVT Getting My Multi Wrapped - Body Panel Removed

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Riko, Jul 27, 2020.

  1. just removed my body panels to wrap em

wich color? reveal in the upcoming video ;)

ps: I hope to do a good sprayjob myself on the front fender, because of the tight fitting of cables underneath the fender, I didnt wanna bother removing it myself

  2. The mudguard is easier to remove if you split the rear section away.

  3. Those 2 bolts

Okay, but what made me shiver is underneath I see some cables held on place with zip ties with little to no room or play....
    its all very tight underneath

Removing wouldn't be the issue, but my fear is reassembly would be a pain in the but
the first owner told me he installed the rear section as an option and that was a pain in the but to install he said.

The ABS cable on the left side are held in place inside the left fender by 3 hooks thru wich the cable has to pass and that was hard but it worked to unhook and hook back, but as I said, the further up the fender, the more complicated it gets...

So I'd rather let it be and see it done than tackle it alone without any reference.

Even the extensive Service Manual I have doesnt show anything about removing the fender itself....(of I didnt look good enough)

I could go to a dealer and ask them to remove that whole fender and ride back without a fender of course and meanwhile treat the fender, once done go back and ask them the reassemble....

Anyway in the meantime I heard of the wrapper, he said it will be a month from now till my parts could get wrapped because he is fully booked, that sucks
I was a bit too quick disassembling the bodyparts...

He would see what he could do...so I hope it could speed up the planning :)
And on a positive note, I get the chance to practice and clean the bike under the skin, paint the silver handguards black and maybe tackle that front fender while the body pannels are removed....

Anyway, this is the shop, very busy, very good, very professional, very Ducati :)

  5. Black with the red frame looks nice.
Maybe get your belly pan, footrest hangers and crash bars powder coated black as well?

I always liked the original S in black with Gold Ohlins, but a red frame would have really set it off.

  6. true, about the gold shocks, I might wrap that too....

however, in person, the aluminium belly pan and crashbars do give it a balanced contrast against the majority of the all black body panels, I might leave it like that.

  7. Done, almost:

Gonna black out the crashbars and the bash plate to make it more consistent, now its a tad to busy.
Gonna wrap the shocks in gold too, like the older bikes, works perfect with black.

  11. rather have the same with a 1260 engine than the current forum in wich they offer that V4

I like the front, the top tech, and even that V4, but that rear look sucks hard.
No fat tire, no single sided swingarm, looks so generic...

But thats what we get when they want to target the GS audience I guess...

    Its got to be black.
Too much red will look tacky.
With red you have to be careful and conservative ;)

The older black Muli's were my inspiration

  12. Nice looking bike. Did you get the bashplate powdercoated yet? I’ve had mine done, twice. The first time they did a smooth effect, which chipped, so the second time they did a textured effect, which is much harder wearing.

look good that stock bash plate in black on yours!
Was thinking if I should go back to the stock model and paint that one, but I think in black they will look similar.

How much did you pay to powdercoat your bashplate?
Because Ducati sells a black stock bashplate for the Pike Peaks model....although I assume powdercoating will cost less than 75-100 euro they charge of the piece....

  14. I got the bashplate, radiator guard and pillion hangers all done for £50.

  16. aight, thx y'all

    know what to expect :)

I'll update this when its all done.

  17. hmm, I have been quoted 121 euro excl VAT....
And on a fb group they shared similar prices.

Thats the price if its done good, good quality....

@RichT001 you paid £50, and you did it twice because the first time it wasnt done good.
So you paid £50 the second time?
Wouldnt that prove that at that price you cannot get a quality job?

I just asked for a second quote and awaiting their answer.
If its around the same, I'll just bite that bullet
