Just fitted the Givi remote to my V47 topbox... GIVI E132 Remote Control - (hope i haven't broken any forum rules with the link...in the interests of fairness the remote is available from all good motorcycle accessory stores) One step closer to being completely keyless
what do you mean the battery might run out? Arn't Italian electrics up to scratch then? :Nailbiting: It's ok i think GIVI expect it to fail as the lock stays in place. So you can still use the key if needs be.
Kempy, do you have any pics please. I am wondering if this can be fitted to the ducati top box and mount. Also be interested to see how you ran the wiring back to the battery. Oh, and I assume it just pops the top box open, doesn't allow you to remove it from the bike ? Many thanks.
I'll get pics up when i can...might be a bit a bit slow though sorry. Yes the remote just opens the box, but it doesn't affect you removing the box. the lock stays in place so you can still use the key to unlock or remove. To fit to the Ducati top box might (i stress might) take a little modification. Givi make the units to fit into specific boxes soy that they screw onto the back of the lock. Wiring. i ran the lead down the underside of the rack and under the rear seat. Again i'll take pics n'upload when i can. Is there a size limit on pics on here? i'm guessing i'll be better off taking the photos with my phone rather than my SLR?
Ok so sorry for the slow reply and the dirt...the bikes not really filthy it's a really good camera that picks up microscopic specks.... anyway i've tried show that the lock stays in place so yes the box can be removed as usual. the bottom of the box and the rack have terminals that contact when the box is on (the kit comes with a cap for the sensor on the rack so it doesn't get ruined when the box is off) Inside the box is the unit itself that in the case of the Givi box screwed straight on with just one hole to drill. I've run the wire up the grab rail. it's not great but with the hight of my rack this was prob the best option. I looked at running the wire into the rear light lens but because the rack sits up off the bike you wouildve seen wire running down. Still looking for an alternative though. I assume that the rails for the rack are hollow so i may try n run the wire into there. my tip..? be very carefull when you drill the holes for the contacts. As you can see the one on the rack is not great but the plastic is very strong but brittle.
Thanks for the pics, most helpful. I am not sure but it looks like the new mechanism takes up quite a bit of extra room ? I will have to ask to see if it will work with the Ducati top box. Just to clarify, when you press the button, is it the same as just pulling the latch on the box ? What I mean is, it unlatches, but leaves it still engaged on the lid ? I ask because the lock mechanism looks a lot different ot the ducati top box. Cheers, John.
The unit's not too large. I can still fit 2 full face lids n 2 pairs of gloves in...just. Normally on the Givi boxes (I can't speak for the Ducati one) to unlock you turn the key and push the top button (to remove the box turn key and push bottom button). When the remote is pressed the box unlocks and the lid pops up, kinda like Central locking on a car boot. The remote has no effect on how the box attaches to the bike and you still need the key to remove it. The remote only throws the lock for the lid. The handcuffs? I'm new on here so not sure I should incriminate myself too much...we'll not just yet...
Thanks kempy. I think the boxes have different locks. When you press the top button on the ducati box, it releases a top hinged part that sort of hinges forward, but still has the top of it's catch engaged on the lid. Maybe the electronic lock somehow disengages this too. It's tricky to describe, I will take a couple of pics later I plan to go pay the dealer a visit anyway, so will ask them. I guess I ca always be the guinea pig again
