Givi topbox ST4S

  1. Has anyone found a way of fitting a Givi topbox to a 2002 (2003 MY) ST4S?

The Givi site doesn't list anything.

If not, I may go for the Ventura set up (although it's not as secure).

Any other suggestions welcome (I have the factory panniers).

    Cheers!

  2. I had a load of issues when i needed to do this a couple of years ago.

I was advised that it is possible to modify, jiggle and generally bugger about with the factory pannier frames to work with the givi rack ( 675 i think). I could not get this to work with the resources i have and found the only solution was the genuine factory topbox rack. You can then modify the givi plate to fit the factory rack quite easily and this is what i have done.

This works perfectly and your only issue is finding the genuine rack, i believe i got the last one !

  3. I use the Ventura set up with a Euro Rally bag, can't fault it !!
Did try to look for a top box set up and I'm glad now I didn't succeed. Reckon a rack and softer bags are more versatile.

  4. Thanks for that.

My friend has Ventura and rates it - just not as secure if you leave it on the bike.

  5. I have a Givi top-box on mine - It's a bit "bodge", but having spent months trying to find genuine Ducati mountings ( the ones that allow you to have panniers and the top-box fitted at the same time ) I used Givi rack from a Honda that I cut the arms down on and then bolted them inside the top of the pannier rails. Not very pretty but with a bit of "technical improvisation" it works quite well...

  6. I had a Givi top box on my ST4S for a while, with the standard and unmodified pannier frames.
From what I recall, I swapped over the short metal brackets that came with the monokey mount. This meant the arms did not foul or interfere with the pannier frames, and the top box was as far forwards as I could get it without stopping the seat being removed.

my experience was that the top box was still too far back for riding at speed, and used to cause a bit of instability, making the front very light. This happened regardless of solo or two up. Consequently I removed it and sold it.

I tried a ventura rack, which we used for one trip before I sold the bike. The buyer didn't want the rack.
I therefore have a pair of ventura side arms and rack to suit looking for a new home (see advert in for sale section).

    Cheers,
    John.

  7. Interested!

Tried to find ad in Classifieds but couldn't see it!

  8. Here you go, link to the post:

The brackets are the second from bottom of items listed.
I didn't mention the rack but I do have it too (SR18 Sports Rack).

New they cost over 130 quid. No price given so make me an offer, as a guide though I'm thinking around £75 plus postage.
I can go take pictures for you if required.
