After much debacle about what this year holds. One of 3 big choices is to buy the bike I test rode over a year ago and fell in love with as it re kindled that 'explorer' side of biking in me within 40 minutes! So, I just want to get some facts really. I will be going for the 1200 S touring, as I test rode that model. The heated grips are just essential haha. I can trick it out with the sexy weave parts at a later date. I will be going second hand. Questions are: 1) What exhaust options do I have? I like loud, but don't like the idea of dishing out £1k+ just for an exhaust. Doesn't have to be termi... 2) The grumble down low... Hehe. So, below 3k rpm is chuggy? The 1098S was like that. Not fun. How easily is this sorted? Remap? Or exhaust + cat box replacement. 3) I will obviously go for a 2010/11 model. What issues am I expecting to encounter that should have been sorted under warranty. Think those will do for now. I will be buying after summer, so hopefully £10k can get me a decent example. Giving me a couple grand to throw at the bike and maybe a new lid for me... Thanks!
Haha, not yet! Might decide to throw the wad of cash at another big toy instead! But, would be nice getting back on bike.
I loved my 748 to bits, miss that so much. The 1098S, whilst insane and fun. Didn't kindle the spark... It had it's moments and it was certainly beautiful! Not as pretty as the 748 mind you However, the hour I spent on the MTS 1200 S Touring from Moto Rapido was just... Fun! I didn't want to stop, I was riding for the hell of it, not just to get a fix haha. Love it
Exhaust - MiVV decat and pipe is too noisy IMHO, personally I have a Quat D system but the Arrow system seems good value for money. As for the low end running, the best solution is a remap from Chris at CJS Tuning, great fella to work with.
Well, I will be after something that is louder than default that's for sure. As it was pretty 'social' when I test rode it. Don't want something insane, just nice and meaty. Maybe a full termi system is best then?
I did wonder when you'd be back I had the full Termi system on mine when you saw it at Ride-In. Mind you, that was a while ago...you still had the 748 then!
That was such a fantastic noise yours made! Put my little 748 to shame! And it made me jump haha. Perfect amount of noise What is this exhaust system: http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll179/SiRich1971/P1000150.jpg Thanks
Ah, hmmm, nice, but would rather spend the little extra and go termi looking at them... Had any issues with yours mate? Did it help with the sub 3k rpm fueling issue?
It helped a fair bit, but what really sorted it was Chris's remap (which also added a fair dollop of power)
How much was his remapp? I'm trying to get a rough figure of day 1 costs so to speak. Looking at a MTS 1200 S Touring, so I get all the touring goodies, then will buy a full termi system on the same day and fit it as well. Then by the sounds of it (many reccomendations), send the ECU to chris or go for a ride there one weekend. How long does it take?
If you like twin pipes I can thoroughly recommend the QD system - for the Multi I think it's best sounding exhaust I've heard....
I think it was about £350 for a live map to your bike, or about £200 for a reflash. Live mapping is most of a day, reflash is pretty quick. I went for the Termi because I lucked into a cheap one and it would cause less headaches with Ducati if there was a problem - if I had to buy again I'd be seriously tempted by the QDs, especially once out of warranty.
