Goddamn hazard warning lights!!!

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Moley, Feb 6, 2014.

  1. Love the Multistrada S skyhook, no real operating complaints as yet bar one comparatively trivial one.(and it flies in the face of popular opinion)!!

I am a motorcycle instructor and use the 'Strada in my work which means frequent use of the left flasher on exiting roundabouts.....Swindon....Roundabout capital of the world!! (Yeah Yeah, I know ....its weird!!).

That cluckin' '3 second pause' on the button before it defaults to Hazard Warning lights is going to be the death of me, its so easy if a brief signal only is required on exit to end up looking like a knob with your hazards on!!

Anyway anyone knows of a means of getting this disabled?....its driving me nuts!!

    Help please.

  2. Just signal with your hands! Like in old days

  3. brilliant we all wanted hazard lights from the 10 model and now there is too much hazard lights...

  4. I read on the Ducati.MS site that the US bikes have self cancelling indicators, maybe you could adopt that to turn off your hazards

  5. moley, why not just turn the indicator on with the usual short press, and rhen cancel it with a press of the central button ?
Surely that is what most people do anyway

  6. I think I have tried that John!!.....Its such a fine line between 'short press' and 'hazards on'....surely I cant be the only person to experience this??

  7. I don't get this? I don't keep my thumb on the indicators on exiting a roundabout. It's a quick flick to indicate and a quick flick off? Am I missing something here?

  8. Sticking button?

  9. Same here, I've not had a problem with accidentally setting off the hazard warning lights. Well except on a very long uninterrupted ride my hazards set off on about the 20th consecutive left signal! Anyone else had this problem; presumably a software glitch that could be fixed by Ducati?

  10. Common fault with '13 bikes, no cure.

  11. Software .....not finger trouble

    Hi guys,
this one is going to run and run, no you're not going mad, there's a software glitch (IMO) that causes the hazards to come on when using a left turn for the 15-20th time (in a single key-on period).
See my other comments on this thread -

    http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/hazard-flasher-indicator-problem-12627/

Checked with Riders-Bridgewater last August (on my 600ml service) but I already had latest software update so they said couldn't do anything and didn't agree with my opinion that it was a potential safety "hazard". I'll be taking the bike in to GT-Plymouth soon to have the Skyhook sensor recall done, and also the start switch looked at (another common issue). I'll ask them whether there's a more recent software update yet that might fix it.

  12. Didnt even know how to turn mine on, as it flick and release for me, so thx for the learning :)

  13. Only just noticed this thread, This problem has been driving me crazy since I bought the bike. DMC Moto have been great, they even changed the indicator switch cluster under warranty but now it seems even worse.
I'm getting to the point of not indicating left any more to save embarrassment, you just don't know when it's going to happen.

  14. I'm gonna try this when I get back on a bike again

  15. Hmm, so is this only skyhook / 2013 bikes ?

IMO it is unlikely to be the switch, and more likely to be software. It could be hardware, depending on how they time the button presses, which is likely to be the clocks as they receive the handlebar controls I think.

If you get no joy from the dealers I would send a letter direct to ducati Italy, asking if this is a known issue and when they will address it.
I too use the bike for training, and this would become a real pain.

Hope you can get it sorted.

  16. If you ask me all they need to do is change the software so you have to click the indicator button to the left 4 times in 3 seconds.

  17. yes that would do it, but again it is a time related thing, and if the problem is the timing circuit / software, its still screwed.
Stuff like this can be as simple as the wrong value resistor or capacitor fitted to the circuit, so it only affects certain units.

Moley, maybe go back to your dealer and try their demo bike, or even some in the shop if they will let you. See if it is really only your bike doing this.

  18. Is it only sky hook models with hazards?

  19. I think I've sussed it. Before you indicate left if you rub your right foot on the foot peg and slap your knees into the tank 3 times whilst humming She rocked me all night long, you resist the urge to indicate at all, job done :upyeah:

  20. I've just had a call off DMC Moto in Preston, he said Ducati released a patch yesterday for the hazard warning light problem. He said he hasn't checked yet but is pretty sure it's on there server.
I'm popping in on Tuesday on my way back from Brands Hatch to have it done.
